Wine Breakdown October

Alexa, on July 11, 2021 at 8:48 PM Posted in Planning 0 9

Hi brides! I've been trying to research this, but haven't gotten a clear answer. I'm trying to understand from others what you recommend/did/are doing for the breakdown between white and red wine. Originally we were getting married in June (Covid 2020 bride, ugh) and had an even split white and red + a little rose. We are now getting married Oct 30th this year. I always go to red in the fall/winter, but not sure everyone does the same. I'm going to go with no rosé (I don't think people want that in the fall?) and was leaning towards doing like 60% red/40% white.

Thoughts?

In case it matters - the main reception is beer and wine (6-10) and we'll be doing cocktails during cocktail hour only (5-6). Thanks so much for all your help and advice!

Just curious...are you east of the Mississippi where they don't wear/drink white after Labor Day? 😉. I personally drink white 365 days of the year and will happily partake in rose as well. I vote for your original plan (a split with a bit of rose).

Haha yes - I am in North Carolina. While I hate the rule no white after labor day for white clothes... I do somewhat follow it with wine. When it is hot I want white or rosé, when its cool, I want red. Haha 100% decide my drink based on the weather. But at the end of the day I like red most, so maybe that's why. You're right, what I'm trying to understand is how many people are like me or always red or always white! GAH! My gut says more red, but you may be the perfect example of my guests sticking to their favs year round.

Just because you change wines for the season, your guests may not...I would say have an even split amount btwn red, white & rose..and if you have more of something left over, you will have it to drink at home during holidays or for when the warmer months comes back around. I'm also in NC and wedding is in October but with our weather it can be warm or cold..we never know🤷‍♀️

I'd probably keep it an even 50/50 split, but maybe skip the rosé for a late October wedding - I also typically stick to my favorite wines year-round (75% of the time I'll go for a white).

I vote stick with your original plan of 50/50. I think one rose option would be nice, but your call. I’m with others and stick with my favorite (white) year round, regardless of weather!

I agree with the 50/50 - Although I’m the opposite of the PPs, and will drink my dry reds even in 90 degree weather 😂 You can also never go wrong with champagne 🥂

I feel the same as you, absolutely lean towards reds in the fall!! That said, you should definitely cut out the rose, no one drinks ONLY rose, so it’s an option that’s not needed for a fall wedding. I’ve also heard from friends that they all ran out of red, so I would think more than 50% red for almost any nighttime event - but maybe that’s just in my area!

As others have said, I'd stick with the 50/50 split. I'm very much like you, once it starts cooling down all I want is red wine, but I know some people who ONLY drink white no matter the weather. Not to mention, depending on your food, people will often pair the kind of wine they have with their food. Whites taste better with most fish and chicken while reds taste better with beef or richer foods. I actually choose my wines mostly based on what I'm eating! So stick with the original plan.

I’d stick with the 50/50 rule unless your food calls for something different. For example, if you’re having beef and pasta as primary entrees for dinner then perhaps in fall/winter guests might choose more red wine? It if your entree choices are beef and chicken then I’d keep as 50/50.
