will new Save-the-date cards be Enough?

Reasie, on September 6, 2020 at 12:15 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 1 10

My wedding ceremony has been postponed twice this year. We are hopeful for June 26, 2021 which my guests are aware of.

Would it be considered disrespectful to just send informal STD/CTDs with the same ceremony/reception and website RSVP info on the back instead of buying more stationary?

Any thoughts and suggestions will be greatly appreciated...

I think that would be perfectly fine! Especially since you have a wedding website they can refer to for the new info

Thanks for the response. I am getting quite tired with redoing everything.

Sending anything with any out of date info looks tacky, like you could not be bothered to do it right. In fact, use of Save the Dates is pretty new, not necessary at all. For many generations, til recent invention of Saves, when someone needed advance notice before invitations, they were told in person, or by phone, or when a letter or card was already being sent, or by email. Most local weddings that is still what people do. Phone and email need no advance prep time, so you can wait til you are sure. People you talk to, you can send a follow up email. You can be as informal as you like about early notice, and still be as casual or formal as you like about the invitation. Saves do not match the tone of the whole wedding, only actual invitations do that. Just scrap the no longer correct stuff.

If your guests are already aware of the new date, I'd skip the new save the dates and only send invitations. I don't know that it would be disrespectful to do it the way you described, but I think you'd have an EXTREMELY difficult time getting accurate RSVPs. If you send out invitations closer to the actual date, it would be fine to include online RSVP info instead of a physical reply card.

Have you thought about sending something electronically instead? If you’ve postponed a few times I know you’re probably tired of wasting the money.

I get what you're saying and will scrap the STD/CTD since my guests are already aware of the change. I will spend that money on new invitations instead. Thanks for your response.

After reading Judith response, i am leaning more towards your proposed idea of just sending out new invitations instead of STD/CTD.
    Thanks for your response.

I did that for my tech-savvy guests but still felt I need to send something later this year or around February 2021 as a reminder/RSVP for all. I will just do new invitations closer to my actual wedding day IF we don't have to postpone again.
    Thanks for responding.

I understand, I was receiving calls and messages from family and friends stating they received the invitations the day I found out my venue was no longer hosting events.
I did not send anything new out since I have a wedding website set up, I let everyone know about the change and referred them to the site for any updates. Honestly everyone was very understanding about it. Stationeries are not cheap, I would only send out invitations.
I went to my aunts house today and saw my invite in her mail junk pile lol she’s already RSVP’d. I can imagine that’s what other people will do too if they received another SOD. So just save your coins lol
