Will it be too late for dress alterations?

Emily, on April 7, 2020 at 5:10 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 4

Assuming I will still be able to have my wedding on June 21st- my dress alterations appointment was originally scheduled this month, Obviously it will have to be rescheduled once they re-open but how long does it actually take to alter a dress? It will be hemmed around the waist and bust line as well as little bit at the bottom. Hopefully everything opens up around the beginning of May but if it doesn't, what is the approximate time frame I would have to get it done by wedding date or will I just have to deal with it?

This all depends on your seamstress. My seamstress wants me in 2 weeks before my wedding for my fitting (first and final). And I called them 6 months ago.

    Hey!
    My wedding is June 6th.
But, my portrait will be taken the second week of May, I talked to my seamstress , and she said that we will get it done.
I'm going in for my fitting the first week of May, and she isn't worried about the timeline, so I'm following her leadSmiley smile
I'd say to call your seamstress and discuss your worries. I think we will both be fineSmiley smile❤🤞🙏🙏🙏

I work in a boutique where our alterations begin 6 weeks prior to the wedding, but we can accommodate brides in a hurry with at least 3-4 weeks. It’ll just depend on your seamstress and how many gowns they are working on, etc. I’m sure it will work out!

    Hi Emily,

As everyone above has stated, the timeline depends on your seamstress or tailor. In the past 6 months, I have had two gowns altered. (Full disclosure: They were not my wedding gowns; but one could have been worn by a bride, and the other was a BM dress. Both were from Lulu's.) In both cases, the seamstress was able to get the alterations done within two weeks. For the second dress, the timeline included a fitting after one week to double-check the length.

In short, I recommend calling any/all tailors in your area to see what they recommend and how quickly they can accommodate your alterations. Or, if you already have someone in mind, speak with that person or company directly. In most cases, there's still someone answering emails and phone calls for businesses that are currently closed due to COVID-19.

I wish you the best of luck! Smiley heart
