Widowed Mother of the Bride

Jenna, on March 25, 2014 at 9:15 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 9

1st. No Condolences please.

I'm asking my mom to give me away. She prefers pantsuits, and even wore one as a bride. I want her to be comfortable, but I want her to go with the wedding.

My groom and I are in ivory with purple accessories, Our attendants are in purple with blue accessories. All dresses are in chiffon. What would a father of the bride wear in this case, and what would be appropriate for me to ask her to wear? I know she likes purple and blue, but won't wear something she doesn't like even on my day. She will only wear something that covers her whole legs and the upper half of her arms. I know she doesn't care for anything but cotton either.

I want it to have a traditional flair, while still looking good on her and keeping her happy. Ideas?

I would probably do a pantsuit. The ones above are good options. A FOB would be wearing a suit or tux, possibly with an accent of one of the wedding colors and a boutonniere.

If your mom has a corsage that would be nice as well.

My mother hasn't worn a dress in I don't know how many years. I told her that if she'd prefer to wear a woman's pant suit (like pictured above) that would be fine. Your Mom can wear pants and still be feminine.

I would just let her go shopping - from the sounds of it she should be able to find something in a department store. if you want to go with her, great! if you don't, great! she should wear what she wants

She won't go shopping. She insists on wearing jeans because she doesn't want to spend the time or money on it. I had to beg her just to come to the wedding

Can you buy her something and hope it looks good? At the end of the day, will your life actually be over if she wears jeans? I think the most important thing is for her to be in attendance.

Is she feminine? Not like "she won't wear dresses" but in the "she won't wear a lady's pant suit either." You asked what a FOB would wear, so that leads me to believe that she isn't feminine at all. If that is the case, maybe a tux wouldn't be out of the question.

I wouldn't worry so much about finding her an outfit that "matches" you or the wedding party. I think a pantsuit in whatever color she prefers would be great.

She is feminine. I honestly don't understand why she won't wear dresses. She claims she is too old for them, which to me just sounds ridiculous. She used to wear mini-skirts in her youth. I like the idea above, and the lines are simple enough I believe I could actually even make it. I've sewn together far more complicated garments.

    Thank you for your opinions.
