Whyyyy. Puppies aren't flowers.. or party favors..

ajpeacockk, on October 19, 2016 at 1:02 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 13

Why do people do this crap?? And then the media covers it and other people want to do it. Puppies are huge responsibility- not something you can think lightly of. So dumb. Link: http://wspa.com/2016/10/17/couple-uses-puppy-bouquets-instead-of-flowers-for-wedding-photos/

The article does mention that these are rescue dogs. It would be sad if they wound up back at the shelter because this couple saw them as nothing more than photo props.

Totally! There was someone on here the other day wanting to do this and then "let" people take them as party favors.. talk about guilt trip

I think you got things a bit wrong, aj. The person here who was considering this idea wanted to pay the adoption fee of the puppies, thus making it easier for them to be rehomed. Was it the best of ideas? No, and the poster understood why it wouldn't make sense. But nowhere in that post did she say she was using them as "nothing more than photo props" or "letting people take them as party favors".

As for the couple in the article, they were raising awareness for a local shelter.

I didn't say nothing more than props nor suggest she was making them pay. But a dog is a big choice and to hope people will choose to take one is a lot of pressure.

"We rescued these dogs! Who wants one? No one? Okay.. hmm.. what to do with 10 pups.."

And I was suuuper relieved when she came to reason. Lol

    Think of the puppy pee!

Agreed on dogs being a big choice, for sure!

But again, not exactly what the poster had said. She said "I was going to pay the adoption fee and if someone took one, then great. I was going to take them back to the shelter after the wedding, with the adoption fee already paid for, so it would be easier for them to find a home."

And yes it was a big relief when she realized why this wouldn't work Smiley smile don't think any shelter would relinquish a dog without a home check first, anyway.

We are doing puppy (and small dogs) bouquets for pictures only. I am working with a rescue to do so. We are also paying their adoption fees to approved adopters through the rescue (not people at our wedding). Our centerpieces are being tastefully made out of dog bowls and treats which will be donated to a shelter afterwards and my MOH let people know for my shower in lieu of gifts to bring old blankets and/or new dog supplies for us donate to a shelter. We have eight rescue dogs. I've been volunteering in animal rescue since college and FH is a huge dog lover too so it made the most sense for us to commemorate our wedding by giving back.

I might also add there will be a rep from the rescue present at all times during the pictures. We are also letting the rescue use the pictures for adoption photos for the dogs.

The people in this picture are raising awareness for rescue dogs and the rescue they volunteer with. They didn't adopt the dogs or ask their guests to adopt them, although that would be a cool side story if it happened. No reputable rescue would give someone that many puppies to pass out like candy. Adopters typically fill out an application and sometimes there are even home checks involved. At least read the story before you get your panties in a bunch.
