Why is it so hard to find wedding songs?

MrsBaker, on March 11, 2014 at 1:55 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 18

I have to get my final list for all of our songs to my DJ this week and I am having the hardest time deciding on each song! The reception list wasn't too hard for us to decide on but each little specific thing that I didn't even realize needed a song is what is hard! My FH and I really are shy people so the thought of dancing in front of everyone (especially since neither of us can dance) is really scary. We are definitely going to cut whatever song down so it isn't so long. The last one I need to come up with is the father/daughter and mother/son dance. Since none of us are dancers we are going to kill two birds with one stone and do it all at once to one song! The hard part is that neither of us are close to our parent so we don't want anything sappy. Help!? Lol. Everything that sounds right is sappy and we are not about that! What are you guys going to use?

Dang this was a long post! Congrats if you got through it haha.

Explain the situation to your DJ and ask his/her advice on songs and shortening them.

You could always skip the F/D and M/S dance(s), if it makes you that uncomfortable.

What do you think about "Isn't She Lovely?" for your father/daughter song? No matter which song you choose, stick with something short and you won't feel so awkward Smiley smile

Would your dad and/or FH's mom help out with those specific dances? I gave the responsibility of choosing the father/daughter dance song to my dad (since they are often songs "from" the dad to the daughter), and he was thrilled.

I'm definitely going to tell my DJ to cut the song down! I thought about skipping the dance but I know my dad wants to do it and I want to honor him some how because of everything my parents are doing for me. I figured I would have FH and his mom dance at the same time so it isn't as awkward for my dad and I.

LOL, ok. It was just an idea. My dad takes that kind of stuff very seriously, so I knew I would be fine. In fact, I don't have an answer yet, but I'm sure there is a list/spreadsheet in his computer with ideas and pro/cons (my dad is an actuary, so he makes spreadsheets for EVERYTHING).

If I let my (step) dad, my dad passed away when I was 6, choose, he would DEF choose the Chicken Dance, no joke.

Our list is also due this week and I'm having a horrible time with the ceremony music. I want it to be different/meaningful to us but at the same time kind of classic. FH and I can't agree on anything so I might just have to fall back on Pachabel canon. I also didn't realize how many songs we need... so we're a little behind on everything!

Did you look at the song list on WW. There are seriously so many ideas there.

You don't HAVE to do father/daughter mother/son dances either. If you aren't close with your parents, it may be best to just skip it, and avoid the awkwardness.

What about something like "What A Wonderful World" or the Iz cover of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow"? Not overly sappy and great songs.

Lol obviously I'm just lazy Smiley smile

Yeah I've looked through the list a ton and googled and also used the fancy little search bar on here but nothing seems to jump out at me when I listen to it. We are more country/oldies/rock people so I've been looking for something along those lines. I may end up just telling him we can do some silly song. I don't want to hurt his feelings and I'm his first daughter to get married and the baby of the family.

A good song to dance too since you both aren't too close to your parents is "What a Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong. It is just a beautiful song about the world and people around you so nothing too sappy hope this helps!

I'm dancing with my step dad to "My Wish" by Rascal Flatts and with MY dad to "Let It Be Me" by Ray Lamontagne. My FH and I are doing "Dust to Dust" by The Civil Wars for our dance.

And I can't dance either.. I let the dads lead and with FH I think we will just sway back and forth jr high dance style haha
