Why don't people look at the wedding website?!?

NJ Bride, on August 11, 2011 at 12:52 PM Posted in Planning 0 12

My FH and I made an extensive (yet well-organized) wedding website because we have so many people travelling, we wanted to make sure they had all the info they could possibly need and more.

I can't tell you how many times we've been asked questions that are on our wedding website! It was at the bottom of our wedding invitation AND it's on my facebook "favorite websites" section... I don't understand how so many people have either missed it or said "oh, we didn't realize it was on your website". (Seriously? How did you miss the tab labeled food or the times of the ceremony and reception that are located ON THE HOME PAGE!) I figured we'd get these questions from grandparents and whatnot, but it's people our own age! (I think grandma is buggin' my mom! Smiley winking)

A lot of people don't pay attention to details like that... and realize that probably 95% of your guests are nowhere near as crazy for your wedding as you are (though I'm sure they ARE happy for you!)... I was annoyed that not many people looked at mine too, but we have to realize that our weddings are not the center of everyone's world... lol

Funny we had that issue to. I think what happens is if people don't save that loooooong link, they really can't remember where the website is and most people don't have the invitation in front of them if they are on the computer (and too lazy to go find it). People are just lazy. They rather you just tell them than pull up the website. Yet I have thousands of views on my site. People will look at it the first time for the "awwww that's nice" affect but then when they really need the information, they don't go back to the site to find it. We stopped answering some people...we would just say...go to the website, all the information is on there.

We sent out our Save-the-dates last week with our wedding website info on it. We mailed around 60 of them for 150 people but have only had 14 unique visitors to our site (and I'm sure 4 of them are my FH and I). Why did I spend so much time making it look so pretty and loading it with useful info? Oh well.

I also have that problem. We have over 600 views however we are constantly getting asked questions that are clearly listed on the site. I even created an FAQ page for this reason but they refuse to read...

Cause people are lazy and cannot follow simple instructions, lol.

Only suggestion is if you have a LOT of text on your website, try to cut to the chase and simplify it. People glaze over when they can't find the answer to their question in 1-2 sentences. Sad, but true.

The only stuff that is extensive are things like the menu ('cause we've got a lot of food!) and "our story" which isn't something people have been asking about Smiley winking Most people after asking these questions either say... "oh, we didn't realize you had a website!" (Um... ok...) Or, "oh, I didn't see that!" (really, you read the section about telling us about food allergies but missed that you have to tell us beforehand what you want 'cause we've having tableside ordering... guess you could only read one of two sentences) Or "Oh, you updated it! I haven't looked at it in months!" Well... ok... you'd think they'd have checked, but I guess this one is a half-way valid excuse.

I learned a long time ago at one of my previous jobs, people do not read. Sucks but if you have a lot of info on one page, try trimming it down to the basics.

I look at wedding websites of weddings I'm not even invited too and registries too =)! Lol with that said I feel like my cousins (we are excellent at keeping tabs of each other on the internet) will know the website inside and out and the ladies in my bridal party, but no one else will even look at it. It seems like that's just how it goes.

I had someone make it to our website, sign the guestbook, and then tell me they couldn't find the RSVP tab. Uhm, it's right next to the guest book tab.

I am SO annoyed and tired of answering questions that are clearly marked on the invitations (that were already sent), that are on our website (which is easily accessible), or something I literally JUST said. I know my wedding isn't the center of the universe and all, but I feel like people's ability to pay attention to detail is seriously lacking.

Oh and my favorite: we have 2960 views.

They're looking but not reading. Smiley smile
