Why do i feel behind? am I? 18months left

Chelsea, on November 25, 2019 at 3:33 PM Posted in Planning 0 14

Hi!

I am having a two year engagement and I am already down to 18 months. Inside freaked out that I now have a year and a half left. I feel lost now on what I should be working on. The last 6 months we have planned the date. Booked the venue (which is just a hall so I have to plan EVERYTHING and I don't want a wedding planner.) We have a rough estimate on guest(250) and I need to start finding a cheap catering company! My budget is 15k and we are wanting BBQ. City BBQ is a bit higher than we thought so now im just lost on finding a company that knows how to handle wedding catering. Smiley sad

HELP! What do i need to be working on >_<

Yes! I just had them last Thursday! They are decent price I believe 12.50 a person! However, City BBQ is 15.50 but they do APPS! I have not contacted Dickeys if they do Apps and do they know what they are doing for weddings like I need people to bus and make sure they arent just slapping a platter down?

Yeah they normally have a catering team to come out and help. I talked to someone that had them at their wedding and they had appetizers but I didn't ask what kind.

When I went to the actually store they did not list apps but now im interested in them. I should contact them to see what they all have to offer. Thank you! I would love to chat or see photos of what Dickeys provides or looks like at weddings.

I'm researching photographers at 18 months as well as purchasing wedding insurance and beginning my invitation designs since I'm DIYing it. Probably won't book the photographer quite yet but if you're on the fence about wedding insurance I suggest it. Just a couple hundred $ to protect the $15k is worth it. 😊

I'd spend the next 6 months (until you are 1 year out) focusing on major vendors so caterer, officiant, dress, DJ and photographer. We used Dickey's BBQ for a graduation party at our home. It was more casual but they did a great job & were affordable (around $10 per person). I found it easiest to focus on one vendor at a time, so for example in January I'd do only officiants. I'd email a bunch of well-reviewed ones and schedule phone calls, watch videos, read reviews, etc. until we picked one. Then I'd move on to transportation (or whatever).

Wedding Wire has a great checklist of tasks, that are laid out in a timeline, so you always stay on track.

It is just a guideline, so you'll have to keep that in mind. Some things may not apply to your wedding. There are also lots of different types of planning checklists available on the internet, in stores (books/binders).

The short answer is major vendors first (venue, catering, bar, photographer, florist, DJ), then work on the little stuff. You have plenty of time still.

My biggest advice is to take planning one day at a time. The WW checklist was really helpful and helped me stay on track! There were times when I would really just freak out completely, but remember that it's a process Smiley smile

We had a long engagement as well (two and a half years). At the 18-month mark I was booking all my major vendors - photographer, videographer, DJ, HMUA, florist, and baker. (No caterer needed because our venue included one.) We booked on the earlier side because we live across the country from where we're getting married, but it can't hurt to start figuring out your vendors now!

With 18 months you still have a lot of time, especially since you have your venue secured. However, if you’re already stressed... you don’t know what to do next… and you plan to have 250 guests in a hall that doesn’t supply anything.... Then it would be wise to hire a wedding planner for assistance, to guide you in the right direction, suggest vendors in your area within your price range and offer peace of mind.

Im at my 18/17 month mark also. We have booked out venue which includes catering package. I am currently shopping for a DJ , Photographer and Videographer.

I think after you figure out your caterer everything else will fall in to place. Good Luck!!!!

You are fine! I didn't even get engaged until a year before our wedding. You still have plenty of time! I would start by making a list of everything you have to do and put them in order of priority. Then check them off, one by one. You got this!

You’re definitely not behind. I had an 18 month engagement and did literally nothing until 12 months before 😂

I had City BBQ at my wedding and they were AMAZING! Food was delicious and everything was handled perfectly on the day, and they were super accommodating of everything we needed. I'd highly recommend them any day and I'd say in your case, consider them even with the higher cost.
