Why did you/ didn't you hire a planner?

Curious to hear why you either did or did not hire a wedding planner. Our ceremony place requires a DOC which would run us about $700 or we could hire a planner for $2500 who has amazing reviews & we really liked. She also owns a rental service and gives her couples huge discounts on the rentals. So...

Curious to hear why you either did or did not hire a wedding planner.

Our ceremony place requires a DOC which would run us about $700 or we could hire a planner for $2500 who has amazing reviews & we really liked. She also owns a rental service and gives her couples huge discounts on the rentals.

So what are your thoughts? Is it worth it?

    We have a DOC included in our venue package, but no planner. I love a good planning session so I would never want to turn that over to someone else!

    We hired a DOC because

    a) super affordable ($700, New York)

    b) the stress of worrying about the day was really creating an issue in my life

    c) our logistics are very complicated and I don't want to think about them on our wedding day.

    We didn't hire a planner for financial reasons. Too expensive.

    Did not hire a planner but a family member who basically is a wedding planner is helping me tremendously

    Our venue supplies a planner also. For the overall planning of the wedding we are using an online site which offers 'To Do List', 'Guest List & Event Planner and 'Budget Calculator'. These tools are awesome. The site is Australian but I am guessing the tools will work anywhere?

    FH and I rented our venue space for 3 days ( setup, wedding, clean up) so I didn't see a reason in hiring one. Plus food and servers cost 5k, video-photographer 2k, plus lighting and cleanup crew. Trying to spen my our money where it is needed...I don't see how I would squeeze one in.

    I decided to hire a Design Planner/DOC. I was on the fence about it, but with having a destination wedding, I kinda was feeling a little stressed about all the details of things coming together. As soon as I signed the contract, I felt such relief!

    I'm very organized and a wedding planner seemed like a waste of money to me. So far no problems! I do have a day of coordinator provided to me with my DW package so that's nice for the day of

    We didn't because H and I were very involved in every aspect of the planning and were very organized. Also our venue provided us with a coordinator and everything went super smooth.

    I dont think we needed on at all but our venue was fantastic and handled everything!

    We hired a planner and it was hands-down the best planning decision we made. She is expensive, but is worth every penny, and then some. Both my FH and I have crazy hectic jobs with unpredictable hours, and my mom travels often for work, so we all thought having somebody help narrow down vendors in our large city and "pre-screen" if you will would be helpful.

    We have also gotten discounts with every vendor we chose since she is a preferred partner. I only have a few weeks to go and I can't even imagine how stressed out I would be without her!

    We had a DW in Shanghai and we live in LA, CA, so hiring a wedding planner was absolutely necessary.
