    I don't think it's that tacky. My best friend got married a couple years back, and they said just a card, cash, or gift card because they already had too much stuff in the basement suite they were going to be moving in to together. They didn't know what they might "need", and they were trying to save to buy a house. They were very appreciative of any gift that they were given, and just as happy with a card as with a card with something in it.
