Whose job is it? Event decor, caterer, waitstaff, coordinator

AnnaBanana, on February 7, 2016 at 10:45 AM Posted in Planning 0 6

I was wondering if you could shine some light on a wedding situation for me.

The catering company isn't providing silverware, plates, glasses, linens, etc. we are getting them from an event rental company.

My mom wants white table cloths and candles or flowers on every table. She also want the silverware and napkins to be on the tables already so people only carry their food from the buffet to the table. we could roll up the silverware and maybe tie it with twine.

whose job is it to set the tables with linens and decor and roll the napkins and silverware?

The catering company is really just proving the food so would I also tell the waitstaff that they are in charge of bussing tables, refilling waters and making sure the buffet is stock with food.

Also, if passed appetizers need to be plated or reheated before plating, and the caterer can't do it, would it be the wait staff's job or should the catering company do that for us??

These are questions for your vendors. My venue does it all.

This check with the vendors providing the goods if they are doing set up or just delivery. Usually, specific coordination beyond just placing things on tables (e.g., tying silverware with twine) would fall to the DOC.

Agreed. Talk to your vendors about this. My venue does it all as well

My venue is open to bringing in different caterers. The venue is just the space. The main reason I'm using so many vendors is because my wedding is vegan and kosher. There aren't many options in New Orleans. I have a rental company for the tables, chairs, linens, a florist for flowers and possible event decorator for the lights. I guess I should ask the event decorator and the event coordinator if they would do it.

What MissEtoMrsB said. The waitstaff would do most of those tasks and whatever vendor is in charge of them should handle this.

@annabanana make sure you check with your catering company that it's okay to use outside dishes, I'm having a kosher wedding in NJ and they are providing all the plates etc because they need to ensure the plates are kosher (ridiculous, I know) so I would give them a call and confirm that with them.
