Who Witnessed Your Proposal?

Lisa, on January 3, 2023 at 10:47 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 43
Who was present at your proposal (other than you and your partner)? Did you get engaged in front of family/friends? Or in front of people you don't know, such as at a restaurant or theme park? Or was your proposal totally private with just you and your partner?

For our engagement it was my parents, my brother and sister, my mother-in-law, my brother-in-law and his wife and my husband's "cousin" (not actually a cousin, but a very close family friend). The "cousin" wasn't supposed to be there but my brother-in-law invited him.

My fiancé proposed to me at Disney (we were annual passholders at this time, since we are Florida residents)! One of my favorite rides is the Hollywood Studios, Tower of Terror... Which sounds like a creepy ambiance, but the old Hollywood music and the vibe of "hotel" were always so cool to me and I loved the vibe. Off to the side of the "queue" is a balcony with beautiful pink flowers and a chandelier. It's blocked off from the general public so no one can stand out on there, but I have always dreamed and talked about how cool it would be to have a chance to go out on the balcony, EVERY TIME, we stood in line. My fiancé knew how special it would be to me and how in the future every time we went back, we could see our "spot". He had my mom, my future MIL, and two friends there to take photos and videos. We went into the park with our moms but the two friends were already waiting at the spot for us to walk up on, secretly coordinated by him. Behind the scenes, the friends who were already there knew the plan and got a Disney employee to agree to let them on the balcony. In the video you can hear some guests in the line off to the side react excitedly to seeing a proposal but in the photos and at the moment it felt very private since it was just us on the balcony. So a bit of both!!!!!

We took a cruise for Christmas (2019!) Christmas day I gave my FH his present (another cruise) and he was so surprised. Later, at dinner, the family next to us asked if we had a nice day. I said "yes - I surprised him with another cruise" ..... at which point my FH said "And I'm surprising her with THIS" and whips out the engagement ring. Of course I screeched LOL and some random passenger saw the commotion and ran up to the table snapping pictures. I am FOREVER grateful to this random act of kindness as I have wonderful photos to look back on.

My fiancé's younger brother and one of his younger sisters witnessed ours since they helped him plan it and took photos from the bushes!

We got engaged in Jackson Square (NOLA), first thing in the morning (it was super foggy and eerie). Since it was so early, there was no one around for the actual proposal - but we were able to find someone to take a couple pictures after I said yes Smiley smile

Very cool that you both were surrounded by family when you got engaged! Did you know ahead of time that he would propose in front of family? Or was it a total surprise?

This sounds so very special!! That's super sweet that he got special permission to take you on to the balcony, especially since he knew how much you liked that specific setting. And how cool that you had family and friends there (along with random guests), yet it still felt like a private proposal!

For ours, it was on Easter 2021. We were at his parents house, so his parents, his siblings, their significant others and then my parents were in town as well for it.

I didn't know he was even planning on proposing so the whole proposal was a surprise. His brother proposed two days prior so I didn't think my husband would propose that close to his brother's engagement. In fact we had gone to a baseball game a few days prior to getting engaged and he joked about proposing there but I told him I didn't want to get engaged in front of anyone and I didn't want to get engaged that close to his brother's engagement. He actually called my mom panicking because he wasn't sure how I'd react to the proposal given what I told him.

Oh my gosh, I love these photos and the proposal story!!! ♥ I love the way he surprised you with the ring - perfect timing, and a flawless transition from the conversation with the family next to you to the proposal. And that was super kind of the passenger to take photos for you that you can look back on! I also had a somewhat similar experience: a random stranger took photos of the proposal for us once they saw what was going on, and I'm so glad that moment was captured on camera! I love how there is so much joy on your face and the faces of the other passengers in your photos, definitely a moment to remember!

That is so sweet of them to discreetly take photos for you!! Did you notice that something was off with the bushes (either hearing a rustle of the branches or seeing colors that didn't belong)? Or were they able pull it off without you noticing they were there until afterwards?

Ooh, the fog would be a cool and unique scene for a proposal! Awesome that you were able to find a few moments alone together in a busy city for it. I'd love to see how the photos turned out!

Oh wow, crazy how it turned out to be opposite of what you had said you wanted, but it sounds like it turned out well! How did you feel about having family members there for it? Did you end up not minding it? Or did you still wish it was just you two?

So we got engaged at a state park and our families stood on a bridge about 100+ feet away so it was still private enough that it didn't feel like they were ruining our moment or anything. It was also nice that right after we had lunch with them at the park so I really didn't mind it.

Mine was in summer 2019! We were on a vacation for our 5-year dating anniversary, and we were staying at a hotel with a beautiful porch that overlooks a lake. After dinner, we were sitting on the porch, watching the sunset over the lake. There were a couple other people also sitting on the porch, but a few chairs down from where we were. My (now) husband got into a conversation with one of them, and we asked the guy to take our photo with the lake and sunset in the background. After the photo, we all went back onto the porch, and my husband and I went back to where we were sitting. In the middle of the sunset, my husband stood up and suggested we go back inside to get some wine. I wanted to watch the last of the sunset (the weather was perfect and the view was gorgeous), so I told him I was going to stay on the porch for another couple minutes. He was still standing next to me, and said something along the lines of, "Well, I guess now's as good a time as any." I was only halfway listening, but when my brain finally caught up, I started wondering what he thought now was a good time for. I turned my head to ask him, and then saw that he was kneeling in front of me with a ring. I was TOTALLY speechless, as I definitely did not expect a proposal! The guy that had taken our photo earlier captured some photos of the proposal once he saw it, and he sent them to us.

This is the photo of us in front of the lake, taken before the proposal:

That is really nice that even though they witnessed it, it still got to be a private moment between you and him! Kind of the best of both worlds.
