Who typically throws the bridal shower?

My maid of honor is throwing my bridal shower.

Most often it is the BMs/MOH but it can be others. Some people will say it shouldn't be the mom/MIL because that's like her asking for people to buy her daughter/DIL presents but personally I don't see an issue with it and it's very common around here. I would say at least 25% of showers around here are thrown by the mom/MIL (usually mom) or at least with her help. My mom and MOH co-hosted my shower and my aunt helped. Many people have different ideas about this and I always find it funny how varied they can be. The mom of one of BMs got all huffy because according to her it was always meant to be the aunt(s) or friends of the mom who threw the shower. To her that was a rule you just didn't break and I had never even heard of it.

My bridal party is throwing mine, though I'm pretty sure my mother is going to try to contribute financially

My MOH and mom are throwing mine. Technically moms aren't supposed to host, but my mom didn't feel right accepting my bridesmaids offer to pay.

I think mine will be a joint effort of my sister (MOH), my mum, and my step-mum. My sister is only 19, so I anticipate that the mums will be loads of help

@Brenda, you mean she offered to or someone said it's supposed to be the grooms godmother who always throws the shower? Because really it's whoever offers more than anything and many people don't have godparents. I honestly only know one or two people who do.

@Reggie it's funny how that came up. In our family it's usually the mother in law that throws the shower so my mother mentioned it to my mother in law and she said in her family the godmother throws the shower. I didn't say anything then a few months later I saw his godmother and she was all excited to plan the shower. It will be good for her, her daughter passed away last year of cancer at the age of 29. It's just different than I'm used to

You shouldn't be involved in shower planning besides providing a guest list IF asked. Nobody has to throw one, and if nobody is offering then you may not get one. PLEASE don't go to your bridal party telling them they should

My MOH/sister is throwing mine and my godmother told my mom she wanted to contribute which was really sweet and unexpected! My bridesmaids will probably help too.

My mom, aunt, and sister(MoH) are throwing mine. ive always found the 'your mom/sister' shouldnt host your shower to be really outdated.

I just got back from one!! The MOH is the bride's 17 year old sister so the MOB handled most of it. I'm a BM but am going to college 5 hours away so they just asked me to make a banner and show up ...
