Who to officiate?

Erin, on October 20, 2019 at 11:26 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 16
Who is officiating y’alls wedding? I can’t seem to decide on who should do it. We are both religious but attend different churches so I don’t know if going with one of our pastors is the best idea. Maybe just the justice of the peace? Or a friend?

You can ask both pastors to officiate. I've seen that a couple times before.

We hired a former mayor to marry us. I was looking online for a celebrant to perform the ceremony since my husband isn't religious at all and I don't belong to a church. We wanted that wasn't religious as religion isn't a part of our relationship so it wouldn't have made sense for us to have a religious ceremony. A celebrant can do a religious or nonreligious ceremony depending on what you want.

We have a Justice of the Peace marrying us. I just picked someone who had a good personality, neither of us are religious.

I did go to a wedding where they had both pastors take part in the ceremony.

We asked my best friend since middle school to do ours. She is someone who knows us both and was able to do something very personal. So glad we asked her.

There is an older gentleman at our church who I have always seen as a grandfather. The only grandfather I really knew died when I was 2, so my relationship with Joe is so very treasured.
We got engaged 3 years ago, and I suggested shortly after that we ask Joe. He is 87 and has been through a lot health wise and at first I worried that asking so early would put a lot of pressure on him.
Yesterday he told me that they took his drivers license from him this week, after 3 accidents this month. He told me he is trying, but not handling it well. I worry that this will be the start of a rapid decline if he feels he has nothing to live for, so FH and I are going to take him and his wife to lunch in the next couple of weeks and ask him.

We will be having our pastor officiant.

Maybe you can have both pastors can be involved... One can officiant and one can do readings?

You could always have both pastors! They can split up the ceremony (one do the prayers, scripture readings, etc) and one do the actual marrying part. We have 2 officiants: my uncle who is a pastor & FH's pastor. FH's pastor will do the readings & prayer, and my uncle will be marrying us. Smiley smile

My fiance and I are not religious. I do have a friend I served with in the military who happens to be a fully ordained minister and I asked him if he would be willing to do officiate for us!

Neither FH or I are religious in the slightest. So we asked my grandpa to officiate for us. He's always made sure that I was taken care of and gave me attention when no one else in my family would. So it just felt right. I'm not sure if he will get ordained online or become a Justice of the Peace, but he did ask our opinion on what we prefer. It makes me feel so special he's already put so much thought into our big day.

I love this!!! We are having 2 of our very close friends officiate our vow renewal. They know us best, our relationship best, and I can't wait to hear what they come up with! There will be a lot of tears

We are having a very close friend of mine do it. We were going to ask our pastor but we thought this was a nice way to have someone very close to us involved in the wedding as we decided to have a very small wedding party.

My Aunt is going to do it. She has been our biggest supporter and my biggest supporter since losing my father 16 years ago so I am so excited she agreed.

For yours what are your plans after marriage in regards to attending church? I say either have a friend/family member do it or have both
