Who should we send Save the Dates to?

Lisa, on August 19, 2019 at 10:37 AM Posted in Planning 0 11
My wedding is in February of 2020. We plan to send out invites early in November because of the holiday season, about 15 weeks before the wedding. We were going to send Save the Dates to just out of town people and those we haven't spoken to but want the wedding. But someone told us that they think everyone should get one. The difference is about 60 cards which adds up quickly money wise. Do we have to send a Save the date to everyone?

Everyone doesn't have to receive a save the date. If you're sending them to out of town guests though, I would send them earlier to give them more time to plan. 6-8 months before the wedding is normal. Sending them less than 4 months in advance seems like a waste.

I don't think it's necessary to send save the dates to everyone, but it's nice if you have the room in your budget. The important people are those who might need to arrange travel and/or a hotel, so as long as those people have a heads up, I think you're good.

I agree that sending Save the Dates to everybody isn't required!

I personally think everyone attending should receive one. Everyone has holidays coming up etc. and all are busy so they definitely should be reminded to put ya event in their calendar.

You definitely don't need to send them to everyone.

I'd do any out-of-town guests and any VIPs that you really want to attend. You'd think that your VIPs would know the date already, but I'm still getting questions from friends and family asking me to remind them what our date is, so we're sending our STDs to most of our guests!

I think everyone should get one. How do you decide who doesn’t get one?? If I didn’t receive a save the date and knew other people that did I would assume I’m not invited to the wedding

We’re getting married 2/2/2020, and sent them out in the spring to everyone. However, we are having a destination wedding so you generally send them out earlier, and to everyone because everyone will have to travel. I think the general rule is to send them to out of town guests and the VIPs, but I’m not sure where you draw that line.
