Who pays

Nicki, on July 23, 2019 at 10:37 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10
Who pays for the attire for the wedding party? All the weddings I've been in I've had to pay for my own attire but our wedding party seems to think we are responsible.

In general agreeing to be in the wedding party means purchasing your attire. Some couple's are nice and buy it for the party but it's definitely not the norm.

Usually the wedding party pays, unless you can afford it then its always nice to chip in or pay for it. If you are talking hair and make up, if you are requiring them to have it professionally done, then you pay.

I've been in 7 weddings and paid for my attire every single time. Some people that have a larger budget to work with may pay for their wedding party's stuff, but that is definitely not typical! My only advice is if you are having all your girls wear the same dress, talk to each of them about their budget before you settle on the dress. That way you pick something that everyone can afford.

The BP is traditionally responsible for buying their own attire!

The bridal party is responsible for their own attire. The only thing that you could possibly be responsible for is shoes and jewelry if you’re requiring them to wear something specific.

My bridesmaids bought their dresses, as I have done that in the past in my friend's wedding.

I think that attire (dresses for women, suits/tuxes for men) typically falls to the wedding party in America. H was in a wedding where the family of the groom paid for their suits, but I don't think that is the norm.

I paid for all my girls dresses bc I personally think it's tacky to "honor" someone by telling them how to spend their money. That's definitely not the norm, and i've paid for the dress every time I've been a BM, but i think it's quite rude.

I have never been a bridesmaid, but just from what I've heard from friends the bridesmaids pay for their attire. There has been an occasion where the bride paid for the attire as a gift but have heard mostly that its the bridesmaid responsibility.
