Who pays for what?

I’m paying for my bridesmaid dress and I think it’s only fair because I’m asking them to be in my wedding. I’m also getting them a jewelry gift set for my wedding as a thank you. My husband to be also paid for his groomsmen suit. My bridesmaid are paying for their own alteration and hair and make up but that’s because I’m not requiring them to get it done professionally if they didn’t want to. It’s really depends on the bride. I’ve been in three weddings where the bride pays for the dress and I’ve been in one wedding whee I had to pay for everything. I do think you should offer to pay for one item. Being a bridesmaid is not cheap, I’m saying this from experience. I’ve been a bridesmaid 5x and have spent hundreds and thousands of dollars once you calculate wedding attire, hair & make up, bachelorette party, gift for the bride, etc.

BMs are expected to purchase their own attire and day of hair/MU. It is a nice gesture to purchase it for them if you can, though.

I disagree, it’s whatever you, your fiancé and family is comfortable with that matters.

Usually, bridesmaids pay for their own dresses/shoes (unless you’re making them wear specific ones), if you’re making them have their hair and make-up done then you need to pay for it. If you’re not making them get their hair and make-up done then they can pay for that since it’s optional.
