Who pays for the tuxes?

Sarah, on January 12, 2021 at 6:39 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11

So my two boy cousins from the same family are in our wedding.

There mom was not aware when we asked the boys to be in the wedding that she was responsible for the cost of their tuxes.

And she thought it was weird that we were wanting all our ushers in tuxes and that we would not pay for the ushers tuxes.

So who pays for the rentals?

The couple or the person renting?

The person renting if they’re an adult. Etiquette on minors is unclear, but I would offer to pay if I was asking a child to rent a tux for my wedding.

Groomsmen typically act as ushers. Unless this is a black tie wedding, kids/teens can wear a regular suit. The person wearing the attire is generally responsible for purchase/rental. On the flip side, if the couple has a specific vision they are not willing to budge, then it is 100% the couple's responsibility to cover all expenses.

How old are these kids out of curiosity? Unless they are out on their own making their own way and have a ton of extra money set aside for occasions like this, parents need to be made aware of their children being asked to participate in the first place.

Since they are both children, their parents should have been asked about their budget before you decided on attire, OR you should have offered to pay. Since it's too late to consult their budgets, you can just fix everything by offering to pay. To save money, let the ushers wear something they already own.

Being under 18, I would offer to pay or like others suggested - let them wear what they already own.

I honestly never know any friend or family of mine who had to pay for bridesmaids, groomsman, ring bearers, or flower girls attires. I and my sister were often asked to be the flower girls and my mom never had to pay a penny. But it really different from couple to couple.

I would offer to pay for the rental, especially since you’re wanting a certain look for them. I scored an absolutely gorgeous flower girl dress for $45 & paid for it to be dry cleaned so I spent around $75 total- we’re having her lil brother be the ring bearer. The parents have started shopping for an outfit for him.
