Who pays for the bridesmaids dresses?

My mom and I are talking about who should pay for what. My parents have said they'd pay for pretty much everything... I'm now hearing that they want us to help. Which I'm fine with. But she still wants to pay for the bridesmaids dresses. I feel like they can pay for it on there own. It's pretty casual and country wedding so I want just simple day dresses. I feel like I can tell my bridesmaids to pay for it. But my mom doesn't think so. So who is really supposed to pay for it. We aren't rich or have good money. So money might be an issue later on... what have ya'll done for your bridesmaids. Did you pay for them or did they pay for there own? Help please!!

Its perfectly fine for Bridesmaids to pay for their own dress, of course you should ask them what their budget is and be mindful of choosing a $300 dress for them (even over $100 can be too expensive for some).
Shoes they should provide unless you request some odd color and "exact" shoe you want your girls to wear like a purple Nina brand shoe, style extra cute. (style name made up). you should just request "black" "silver" or "nude" shoes, and not dictate style...
As for Hair/MUA, bride pays ONLY if she requires it/certain hairstyle. If you're cool with them doing their own hair/makeup, its an OPTION you give to them and they can be expected to pay.

Yeah I'm not to worried about their hair and make up. They can choose their own shoes too. No matter what I want cheap dresses. Something they might wear again to church or something. So I want it to be their style too. But thanks ladies. I'll try to talk to my parents into letting me tell the BM they are paying for their own.

In the US, typically the bridesmaids pay for their own. In the UK, the couple pays.

My BMs will be paying for their own. I think that is an understanding when someone accepts that position. I set a day for all of us to go shopping so everyone can agree on a dress

I've always heard of bridesmaids paying for their own dresses, but I think there are some regions where the bride and groom cover those costs. It's a nice gesture if you can afford it.

My first wedding I paid for half the cost of my (2) girls dresses. They weren't expensive ($160 each dress), I just wanted to help contribute towards the cost. This time around, I'm not having a bridal party at all so that problem is solved lol. If your mom wants to pay for their dresses, then I'd say let her. But there's no real rule on it.
