Who Pays for Guests Resort Entrance Fee?

Marilyn, on August 12, 2019 at 9:22 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 21
Hello!
Not sure how to handle this potential situation. I’m having my wedding in Cabo & have blocked off 25 rooms at the resort. In the case that a guest decides not to stay at the same resort, there is a fee of $150 to enter the resort for the wedding. How do I go about handling this? Who should pay for this resort entrance fee?

The bride & groom should pay for those expenses.

You should be paying the entrance fee. You will need to get an approximate headcount and factor that into your budget!

My FH and I just discussed this and I say we pay but he’s saying they should... so I decided to say in my website that in order to attend they most stay at the resort... if they can’t afford to stay at the resort then it’s fine, declined the invite... which I’m fine with. We invited 70 guests.. originally wanted 30 only but that’s another story! Our resort charges $100! Imagine everyone stays elsewhere or even half! That’s 7K or $3,500! I can’t afford that... so either stay at the resort or don’t come.. but that’s just me.. good luck

During the planning process for our Mexico wedding, SIL stated she was not going to stay at the resort for a variety of reasons. I said that we would pay her/her husbands resort fee the day of the wedding but not for the other days the entire family is in Mexico.

I had a DW. If you couldn't afford to pay for that fee, you should have chosen another resort. My guess if you get a certain percentage off as well for each guest that stays at the hotel (we saw maaannnyyy packages like that). Using guests to supplement your wedding and then demanding where they stay is just bonkers to me. How has the response for your guests been?

That is 100% fair. You don't have to pay for their entire vacay, but the day where you're inviting them is totally necessary. So nice to see people take care of their guests on here Smiley smile Love your profile pic!

Wow, that's quite an entrance fee to attend your wedding! Your guests have to pay travel costs and lodging fees (with no ability to shop around for a better deal) just to show up. Not to mention all of the other costs that go along with a trip. I guess it's good that you have already decided you don't mind if they don't attend.

Oh believe I chose a cheaper resort lol. Not the one I wanted... and we have a travel agent so the stay is about $300 cheaper through them.. and naw I’m not gaining anything by them staying there, 90% of them have to stay there... I need to ask what happens if they don’t. But all of them have said they are attending and saw the prices and said they were reasonable.. so we shall see lol.

Yeah we went with a cheaper resort in order to make it affordable to them.. everyone in my guestlist have said they will be attending even after seeing the price. Which is cheap (to me at least)... $630 for 3 nights double occupancy.... I only wanted close friends and family about 30 ppl but our parents double our guestlist so that’s why I’m fine if half can’t attend due to the price.

The couple should pay for it. I wouldn’t come to a wedding that I had to pay $150 to get into...

Thanks! I’m looking through the contract before I sign it this week & totally overlooked that detail. I gave it to my mom to review and she was thinking about staying at another resort. Glad that scenario came up.

It’s super early on in the planning phase. Currently reviewing the contract before I sign it. I just overlooked the thought of guests possibly staying at another resort. Will definitely be factoring in this fee into the budget!

I’m the same way. My wedding would be 120 if I kept it near home but expenses were just ..WOW. I’m fine with fronting the entrance fee for guests because in the end...it would still be wayyy cheaper than having a wedding in my hometown.
