Who is invited to your rehearsal dinner?

PressTheStarKey, on October 24, 2016 at 10:02 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 17

My FILS are paying for it, so I realize I have no say and I really don't care, but I'm trying to save them some money by not inviting my extended family. We're having a semi-DW (4 hour drive for each family at a halfway point between the families), and FMIL wants to invite EVERYONE who is coming the night before the wedding. I always thought it was just those involved with the wedding and their dates/families. I have no idea what etiquette says on this, so lay it on me.

I believe the etiquette is to invite the immediate family, bridal party and their dates and it is optional to include out of town guests. We are going to invite all guests in town that night so we can spend more time with them.

Our rehearsal dinner will consist of the bride, groom, bridesmaids, groomsmen, mother and father of bride, mother and father of groom, & the Officiant. We aren't inviting flower girl, ring bearer, or grandparents.

IMO ... rehearsal dinner is for those who are participating in the wedding/wedding party and SO.

If your FILS are paying for it, you don't care, and they are wanting "everyone" ... enjoy! Let them enjoy as well.

Our wedding was similar, most people had to drive 3-4 hours.

Ours was immediate family, wedding party and their significant others, and anyone else included in the ceremony. My in-laws hosted, and offered for some folks to stop by for a casual drink (on them) after dinner which was nice.

If you invite everyone, it's just another wedding. A little crazy in my opinion!

Bridal party, immediate family, ushers, dj and pianist since they're coming to the rehearsal anyway and they're people we know, basically just the people that need to be at the actual rehearsal, which I'm trying to keep as small as possible because I want most people to be surprised and in awe lol

We are only inviting people in the wedding. Bridal party and their families, parents, grandparents, and Us of course. We are having a bonfire after for out of town guests and close friends.

We are inviting bridal party (plus dates) and immediate family only to rehersal dinner. However, we are throwing a welcome event after the dinner at the hotel for all the out of towners

I've heard that it can include the bridal party and the immediate family but extended family can be invited as well. My FILs are hosting it as well and I want to save them money since my extended family is huge. We are inviting our immediate families (parents and siblings) and the bridal party and their dates. It'll probably be around 35 people

ETA: also will most likely be extending the invite to our officiant since he will be there and is a family friend

We're doing parents, grandparent, siblings, and bridal party plus significant others or dates for everyone. That alone is 33 adults and 5 kids and none of us (his parents are paying) want it any bigger.

I will be inviting our parents, bridal party and their SO/kids, and a few out of state guests who we only get to see maybe once a year. ETA: My grandfather and his wife (OOS guests) will be there but my grandmother will not be invited the RD (saying "major drama" is an understatement)

In the weddings I was a BM in, it was just anyone involved with the wedding. And that's how I plan to do mine as well.

We had immediate family, grandparents, the bridal party and their dates.

One of my BM was my cousin who was 16 so I also requested her parents to be there. My MIL was a little iffy about that but I also felt weird not having her parents there because she was the youngest one.

Our wedding is a DW for most of our guests. We're inviting everyone to a welcome party instead of a traditional rehearsal dinner and serving heavy hors dourves, desserts, drinks (alcoholic and non) it is a little later in the evening and I made it clear on the invite that it's heavy horsdourves a casual, drop-in style party

We were planning on inviting all the aunts, uncles, and cousins but now it will probably just be bridal party. We are having RD at the restaurant that is attached to our hotel venue so we are just going to invite all hotel guests to hang out at the hotel bar for us after dinner. It's saving FMIL money but we still get quality time with the family.

Bridal party, their SOs and immediate family are invited to ours.

Too many people would just me too many people to coordinate and worry about IMO.
