Who is getting wedding insurance ?

Samantha, on October 20, 2017 at 10:19 AM Posted in Planning 0 27

Trying to decide on whether or not to get wedding insurance. Don't know much about it but I will be spending roughly $30k on my wedding. I don't know anyone who has ever purchased wedding insurance out of all my friends, but it's always mentioned in articles I read.

Your thoughts?

FH were in total agreement to get it. If you go back a couple of weeks on this forum you'll see entirely too many brides making last minute arrangements due to hurricanes. All sorts of crap can happen that's out of your control and $30k is a lot to gamble with.

Yep, we were required by our venue to get it and we actually got more coverage than was required. Relative to the cost of your wedding, it's a drop in the bucket, and totally worth the piece of mind IMO. Jsut make sure you know how much and what it covers.

We also were required by our venue to get liability insurance, but even if it wasn't a requirement, we still would have gotten it. Think about all the hurricanes this season and the number of people who had to postpone or cancel their weddings due to storm damage (or dangerous conditions). Also, you want to have coverage if god forbid a guest gets hurt at your wedding or causes property damage to your venue. The type of coverage you need will depend on how you are hosting your wedding and what contingencies you want to be insured for. For example, we wanted (were required) to be covered for damage to the venue property and for guests' injuries. We also made sure we were covered in case of a natural disaster or other postponement of the wedding. We did not however purchase cancellation insurance, which was more expensive and covers your expenses if you voluntarily cancel your wedding (not because of a natural disaster).

Some venues require that you have wedding insurance. Better safe than sorry.

We got it for peace of mind.

When our DOC fucked up we were actually able to make claims and get some money back from it

Our insurance was under $100 and was so worth it!

I'm getting it and my venue requires it. I'm looking into it now and will probably purchase it in a couple of months. My venue said I didn't have to get it yet but will remind me in January to purchase.

In the grand scheme of things, a few hundred to protect one day worth thousands, I'd get it.

My venue requires liability insurance. So my FH and I are getting liability and postponement/cancellation insurance too since he's in the military. The last thing I want is for him to get deployed again a few days before the ceremony and lose all that money. So I'd rather be out $275 then $30,000.

Our venue requires we have it. We would still get it anyway, though, if they didn't!

We were required to get it. Its only 120-150 dollars though. Think of it this way, a wedding is as expensive (even more expensive) than a car. Would you drive a car without insurance (besides the legal ramifications). It is a small amount to pay for an expensive event where things can unfortunately go wrong.

We got it was worth the peace of my mind. A friend of mine, 6 days before her wedding the revenue (the taxman) went in and closed her venue down. She worked in the wedding industry and had checked out the venue when they booked it, it was fine at the time but anyway in the mean time something happened it was closed. They had already paid most of the venue costs as it was so close. They got nothing back and never will!! Luckily as I say she worked in the industry and her SIL was an events organiser so with family help they were able to get a new venue and had an amazing day. In fact the place they got was where they had originally wanted but couldn't afford and was too small. As the venue hadn't officially opened for the season and had no staff they cut them a deal and sorted out something to accommodate her numbers. My friend had to get caterers, buy the alcohol, rearrange accommodation ( original venue as a hotel) .. there was a long list ... but it worked out amazing. But moral of the story is get insurance, things can happen.

Please get wedding insurance. I had to postpone my wedding because of hurricane Irma and would have lost everything without it. You never know what could happen and it will be the best $500 you ever spent.

There are 2 types of insurance. Liability on protects you if you get sued because some one slips, there's an accident. Then there is Wedding Protection. That is what will help if you were an Alfred Angelo bride, or your bakery closed 3 weeks before the wedding, there is a hurricane, etc.

Do it. We lost three venues in two months not too long ago. Dress shops close all the time. There was just a story about a caterer who used TT to bilk two couples out of their reception money. Even the most well meaning vendors can go under.

    It's well worth it!
