Who gets thank you gifts and how much to spend??

Kristi, on July 7, 2015 at 4:37 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6

I'm hoping others are in or have been in this position before: we are maxed out on our budget and didn't factor in the cost of thank you gifts! Of course we had planned on getting them for our bridal party, but when I started to think about thank you gifts for literally every person who will be helping us with little things on the day of I'm starting to panic! We simply don't have the money.

My sister was recently married and gave thank you gifts to literally everyone in attendance at her rehearsal dinner -- people I didn't even know did anything to help! A friend of ours also got married recently and gave a rather expensive gifts to all of the females, but not the men. Since family and friends from both weddings will be at ours, is everyone going to expect similar gifts from us? And if so, how much is appropriate to spend? We're having a rather small wedding and I don't want to buy for some and not others because it might be obvious who was left out.

What do I do?

We got gifts for the bridesmaids, groomsmen, and our parents. There will be other people at the rehearsal dinner like our grandparents, aunts, and uncles, but they will not be receiving anything. I don't think it's necessary to get EVERYONE at the RD a gift.

Edited: In total, we spent about $300.

I'm doing gifts for the bridal party, my parents (since they're paying for everything), and will probably get a little something for my officiant (he's a close friend), and my "caterer" (another close friend.)

As far as cost goes, that I'm not sure about...I want to get my girls a few cute little things...and sadly looks like I'm going to be spending about $200 (there are 5 of them)...I don't know what fella is doing for his guys, and I'm completely at a loss as to what I should get my folks.

If you feel people really deserve some sort of gift from you, a hand written thank you card goes a long way. They don't expect anything most likely, and a simple thanks is all that is needed.

Thank you ladies! It sounds like I was stressing myself out for no reason. I do have some family members not in the official bridal party that will be helping out on the day of, so I'm going to need to get something for them and my parents but after that I'm stopping!

@FutureMrsZ I think you're right, most people only expect a thank you.

@FutureMrsCrane and @Yasminadlv thanks for sharing your gift budget! That's about what we were thinking too, so I'm happy to know that range is appropriate. Smiley smile

I'm doing the bridal party, parents our officiant (a close friend), our 2 readers, and our 3 set-up girls (also close friends). I'll be basing the amount spent on the person... obviously you wouldn't spend the same amount on someone doing a reading as you would for someone who stands up with you. Unless you're loaded. Which I'm not. Smiley smile lol

Hi! You should change your avatar to something other than the rings. Around here, the rings are associated with trolls/spam so changing your picture will help you get more responses!

We are getting gifts for our BM, GM, parents (my parents are getting substantially more since they are hosting the wedding), and readers.
