Who gets gifts?

Nikki, on January 31, 2018 at 11:09 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12
I know the bridal party, grooms mom, etc. But I need a list of everyone who traditionally gets gifts because I feel like I'm missing people.

I'm also curious to hear other people's budgets for gifts and ideas of what you're getting people. I have a few necklaces picked out for some bridesmaids but the others I'm totally lost on finding something awesome.

I have only really heard of gifting parents & bridal party. I am getting my BMs all a gift card to a spa for a 1hr massage in their area. They are all spread out so this has ranged from ~$100-175 (tried to make sure the quality of the spa was similar, they are just in different COL areas). We are getting our parents really nice 5x7 picture frames with an IOU for a photo, which will be around $100 each (plus the cost of photo printing).

ETA leaving groomsmen up to FH but will likely spend around $75-100 each

I'm doing my Bridesmaids, my mother and father, his mom and dad (still developing the relationship so I feel it'll help) and my FH. The BM are getting $10 tumblers with their names on it and those will be filled with candy and those small wine bottles. I'm getting my mom a necklace and my dad a keychain or something similar, I have a lot of ideas pinned to pinterest lol. Similar for his parents. For my FH, I'm going to get a tie that he can wear during the wedding and afterwards that will have a little message sewed in to the back.

The most expensive thing for me will be the tumblers, I have 9 BMs and I want one myself so that'll be $100. Everything else I'll probably spend $100-$150 total.

    Bridesmaids

    Maid/Matron of Honor

    Groomsmen

    Best man

    Flower Girl

    Ring Bearer

Ushers/Readers, etc. (anyone participating in your ceremony/helping out on the wedding day)

Parents (on both the bride and groom side)

Shop for them like it's their birthday (buy them individual gifts that pertain to their interests) and remember that anything to be worn/used for your wedding including robes, jewelry, etc. is not a gift but, a prop. Avoid things that say bridesmaid on it.

I'll copy what I just wrote on someone else's post about 30 minutes ago re: WP gifts.

We are paying for their attire, accessories (jewelry/special socks, etc.), hair/makeup, etc. but, still want to get separate gifts. We haven't decided yet but, are thinking along the following lines.

My MOH will get one of the following gift baskets:

Option 1: 3-month beauty box subscription, lush bath bombs, nail polish in her favorite color, $50 Sephora gift card, and a bottle of wine with a fun glass.

Option 2: Soda Stream machine, extra bottles, and syrups, etc and a fun tumbler.

FH will probably buy his BM a really nice bottle of whiskey and some fun snacks to go with it. Not sure what else.

We will also get our parents gifts. Probably personalized jewelry for the moms. The dads will get ties, socks and maybe pocket watches or cufflinks.

Even though our siblings are not officially part of our wedding party we will get them each a small thank you gift for their help. Probably a growler of craft beer for my brother and a bottle of wine (or vodka) for his sister.

Other thing to think about is both sets of parents are remarried so do we also need to get step parents gifts??

And to clarify they're all getting individual gifts I just have a hard time shopping for them on their actual birthdays which is why I need cool ideas.

I got some gifts for the BMs already. FH wants to pay for his guys' suits, so I might also be paying for their dresses and hair.

Haven't thought about the families, but I definitely want to get them each a printed wedding album, and the grandparents can't attend, so we want to make sure they get copies of the video and the albums. I'm not sure really what else to get our parents

I'm getting my BM's each something different, not sure what yet. I'm going to get the moms jewelry and each set of parents a parents album after the wedding. I will be making those myself on Shutterfly or Mpix. FH is handling groomsmen and best man.

Yes, I would include the stepparents too. Instead of individual gifts could you get each couple a nice restaurant gift card so they can go out for nice dinner and an IOU for a wedding photo album.

Doing what the above ladies mentioned, the bridal party and the parents, but I also thought about doing a cute little gift for my photographer, she's awesome! & the Officiant is a family friend, so instead of cash I was going to get her a thank you gift as well.

I wanted to make it personal, rather than just cash. So we shall see what we have money for

How would you guys feel about subscription boxes for all the girls? I made them all make up bags with their names on them (took me forever!) See below. So I feel like birchbox or something would go with that and be something that they'd all be into and they could pick things individualized to them and be pampered. But is it to impersonal?

If I did that then I could find a more masculine subscription thing for my man of honor

We did gifts for our WP and various parents and their partners. price range was probably 50-75 each for the WP and for the parents we did bottles of nice champagne. we also gave a nice bottle of wine to our officiant because he was a family friend and refused to have us pay for his time. we also wrote long thank you notes for each person which are actually the gift element we heard the most about--a heartfelt thank you note goes a long way!!

Bridal party + our parents - those are the only gifts we plan to get. Maybe the officiant if we use a family friend.
