We are doing a Thursday wedding...we've received some complaints bur whatever. We invited 200 people and received 110 yes so far..still waiting for 55 people to respond.

Advice: send save the dates. We sent ours 8 months before the wedding. We did magnets so they won't misplace it.

I'm doing a Friday evening wedding. If people don't like it, then they don't have to come. As long as my hubby makes it to the altar, I will be a happy girl come June 20th, 2014 =)

I am doing mine on a Monday and 80% of my guest list is out of town guests. So far only one family has told me they can't make it but that is because it is either go to their daughters graduation in May or my wedding in April. I agree the graduation should win. I just sent out the std's so no one has needed to rsvp yet but no one has said anything to me. My venue is $750 during a week day or 2500 on a weekend. kinda no brainer for me. I have adopted the attitude that if they don't like it they don't have to come. less money for me to spend.

Do what feels right to you and your fiance and works for the people you absolutely need there. Some people will complain no matter what you do. My friends had their wedding on a Wednesday afternoon because the date was significant. It was a backyard bbq wedding for less than 40 guests. It was a lot of fun. It reminded me that life isn't only special on weekends. I love the idea of a weekday wedding, but think it would work best as a smaller low key affair (rather than a 6 hour reception with big rehearsal dinner the night before). But again, do what feels right. Happy planning!

Our wedding was on a Tuesday. The day was chosen because:

    * We had to have the wedding in Massachusetts, because it was a same-sex wedding and nowhere in our area had same-sex marriage at the time.

    * We had to get the marriage license, and a court waiver of the three-day waiting period, on a weekday, which had to be at least one day before the wedding.

    * The wedding couldn't be on Friday afternoon or evening, or any time on Saturday, due to the restrictions of Jewish law.

We did get some grumbling, mostly from my son. But we had only a few guests for the wedding, anyway. The at-home reception was on a Friday night, and late enough so the guests (almost all of whom were local) could go there after work.

Do these people never go out during the week? I think it's just fine. We do weddings every night of the week, especially Thursdays during the summer.

I say look at pricing two ways; weekdays in high season and weekends in 'off' season. The pricing might be pretty close....

In my area, November, January, Feb (except VD) and March are 'value months". We do a LOT of weddings in all of these months because the venues are less expensive.

Ours is a Friday. I've gone to a Thursday wedding. Everyone is right. The people who really want to be there will be. And Out the Window's advice is gold. Smiley smile

My wedding is on a Thursday and I got so much hassle about it from FH side of the family when most of his family is less than 2 hours away. The people who want to be there will find a way to be there. If you send the STDs out a head of time (we sent ours 8 months in advance), that gives people time to make the necessary adjustments to attend. We are only paying $600 for our venue on Thursday versus 1400 on a Saturday.

I'm doing a Friday wedding because the venue fee is half their weekend fees. It starts in the late afternoon at 15:00 so people can still go to work in the morning if they want, then if they want to leave to get ready they won't be stuck in rush hour traffic.

I see nothing wrong with a Thursday provided the reception is not so late.

I am SO glad this topic came up. We are doing ours on a MONDAY MORNING. We really wanted a Sunday morning, but, well... you know. You can't do a church wedding on a Sunday morning! Smiley winking (we want it for the look; we want the sunshine streaming through the windows, and it will look great with our crystal everywhere.) We also thought that doing a morning wedding on a Saturday would just be inconsiderate and asinine. Who wants to get up early on a Saturday??? Not us!

We're from waaayyyyyy out of town, so, while we're looking mainly for THE venue, regardless of location, we're relying heavily on hopefully finding our dream venue in the city where most of our guest list is coming from.

I wonder if anyone will show up for a Monday morning wedding? I mean, at least it's more enjoyable than showing up to work, huh? Smiley winking

Our wedding day is on a Friday starting at 6:00pm. We mailed out our STDs & received positive responses. The people that wants too be there & share in your wedding, will be there just try not to have it too late at night.

Ours is a Friday, but we did it cuz the venue we wanted was booked every Saturday from when we started planning in Jan until Sept & we wanted to get married before FH's work vacation (& take a real honeymoon instead of waiting). Surprisingly, we haven't gotten many no's yet. Courthouse ceremony is in the morning Fri, but it's immediate family only, so the ones that work were going to take the day off anyway. Reception starts @ 3pm & we figured the ones that want to be there will make a way. No flack yet =)
