White versus Ivory dress in winter?

Natalia, on February 16, 2017 at 1:35 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 28

Hi everyone! I was curious what everyone thought of having a white or ivory dress for a winter wedding? I tried on my dress in ivory and then ended up purchasing it in the true white as my mom was concerned with the snow and an ivory dress. I am debating changing my colour back to ivory now as I've heard a lot of bridal stores say they don't carry white as it's hard to pull off and it can lose the details of the dress. I've also seen some photos where it almost looks blue against the snow which I don't really like. I attached a photo below which is in ivory the store didn't carry any white dresses for me to try on.

Did you try on any all white?

Most people don't look good in all white- I'd get ivory if I was you- but I am 100% bias b/c I don't care for all white.

Honestly stark white rarely flatters anyone

I think you can wear any color you want regardless of the season. It's what you want and that dress is gorgeous1

I don't think I tried on any true white dresses, I only tried on, and purchased ivory. It might be too late to change your order though

I didn't try on any white dresses either. My store pretty much only has ivory as opposed to white. When did you place the order?

    Your dress is beautiful!!!

White white usually looks cheap to me.

I don't think the season matters when choosing between white and ivory. Ivory photographs very white and I agree with other posters that it tends to be more flatting on most complexions. I only know one person who went with a white white dress and it actually photographed almost lavender (luckily, she dug it).

My opinion is get the color you want. Personally white rarely looks good on anyone, ivory is much more flattering. I wanted a pink dress though and instead ended up with "gardenia" and ivory, it's what you want and feel good in, not season or society.

I would find a true white and try it on. As PP's have said, it is not a color that is flattering on all skin tones. I personally tried on a "white" dress and it washed me out so bad. That's if you salon will let you change your order.

I would get the color that looks better on you. There really isnt a rule about seasons and color of the dress.

I tried on one true white dress. It looked awful on me. I'm so pale and could not wear white. The ivory looked so much better.

    Lovely dress.

My dress is ivory as well and I think that soft ivory is much more flattering.

The bridal salon said they wouldn't even put me in an all white dress because it wouldn't be flattering on me.

Thanks everyone! The store is luckily going to let me change for a fee. I figured I would change it to ivory as I've been stressed about it looking too white. I just wasn't sure with it being winter.

Real white isn't flattering for most skin tones. If you're wearing an ivory dress, no one can really tell the difference between ivory or white. As for snow, are you spending the whole time outdoors or just snapping a couple photos?

That dress looks amazing on you and really compliments your coloring. I don't think it would clash with any snow.

The stores told me that "true white" or bright white can wash people out and also have a bluish tinge to it. Ivory comes across as softer white.
