White veil with ivory dress?

Claudia, on December 2, 2020 at 12:39 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 13
Hello!

Can anyone who has a white veil and ivory dress show me a picture of what they look like together??
I bought my veil before my dress and can't change either. My veil is supposed to come in this week, but my dress won't be ready for a few months. Would it be fine? Or would I have to dye my veil??
PLEASE HELP

It depends on the shades of Ivory and White.
Your veil should be lighter than, not matching, your dress. You want it to be clear, in person and in photos, where one ends and the other starts, not look like Casper, one big blob of exact match white or exact match ivory. See how much yellow or grayish tint is in the ivory. If it is very like cream, a lot of yellow, or more like an old bone , touch of grey, it will look wrong with a super bleach white veil. If the ivory is less colored and the white less gleaming white, it will be fine. Not much consolation til you get the dress. But do not do anything til the dress comes in. When it is on, with a mass of ivory, if not yellowy, it will look lighter. And your sheer veil, seeing background through the filmy veil, will be distinctly different, but compatible. And any details of shape on the edges will be clear in photos, where it goes against the dress. Put them on, take a snapshot from ten to fifteen feet. Unless it screams at you, leave it alone.

Depends on the shade but if youre concerned about it then you may want to change the veil.

I think it'll be fine. My dress is white and my veil is ivory and it looks really good together, you can't even tell that the veil is ivory. (Opposite of yours)

I haven't posted my wedding dress anywhere (for our big wedding) so unfortunately I can't post a pic, but in my case it looks good!

White veil with ivory dress? 1

I used my mom's veil which was more white than my dress. I honestly think it turned out lovely.

It just depends. If you can't change either now, you might as well just wait and see how they look together.

If the undertone is the same and the shades aren't too different, they might look fine together, but if not I would just sell the veil (on Poshmark or something similar) and get a new one that works better with your dress.

Personally, I’m OCD and need my dress and veil to be the same color. It would bother me otherwise and I wouldn’t be comfortable because I would spend the entire thinking about it.

My dress is ivory, and so is my veil but my veil is 120 inches so you can see where the dress stops and veil starts. I tried on the different colors together when I was shopping for my dress, and I just preferred them to match.
I think it just depends on your preference.

I wouldn't worry about it because most white and ivory are interchangeable anyway and veil material isn't thick enough to make a color change noticeable to anyone

It was too early to look for these earlier. All examples of too close a veil match. On each you can see that the veil is a sheer one, where it goes over a bare arm or decolletage. But not enough of a color difference for the camera to realize, these are different, and auto adjust to accentuate details in the gown underneath.

The details of the black dress would have shown neath a smoke, not black veil. And the light blush pink dress was an exact match for the chiffon of the dress. Often, it does not matter. Two whites can be very different from one another, or two ivory. But exact matches allow the sheerest of veils to blank out dress details underneath. When I worked part time doing beads and crystal and other detail work for a gown maker, and also did alterations for two stores where after taking off beads for an alteration, they needed replacing, my eyes were getting to tired to read for my college classes. So they offered a summer inventory job at a warehouse at the same$50 an hour, for 2 weeks. A distributor for many makes, a few seasons each, and we had to sort by color and size, and pair with veils as a finishing step for half. Before they had computer eye sensors, over 400 colors of whites, ivories, creams, bone. Sending them out for clearances, $5,000 to one store likr Filenes, thousands to another. Only two kids amongst the experienced ladies, and they were fast, accurate sorters, and taught me about different shades, and accessories, belts, veils, shoes, since many originally sold with veils that were gone. It was interesting, with a big polaroid, to see how close a match it took for the veil to make the dress details disappear. It also taught me the virtue of using multiple shades of beading on gown and veil edges, for the camera. Auto light meters are in all cameras now, and they play tricks.

Thank you so much Judith! You've been such a help! Haha so much for things so simple. Both the veil and dress I got are the exact veil and dress I have been wanting. I don't really want to change them haha but you've helped me out a lot!

Hey! I'm a veil maker of 20 years and saw this on Google and just wanted to chime in.

The goal is for the veil to match the dress, you don't typically seek out a veil that's lighter than your dress. If you're in between colours, however - say your dress is cream and you're in between ivory which would be slightly lighter, and champagne which would be darker, then yes, go for the lighter of the two. But if your dress is ivory, you should just get and ivory veil and if your dress is white (incredibly rare these days), get white. Wearing a white veil with an ivory dress doesn't look great imo, there will be quite a big contrast. White is a cool colour, and ivory is warm.
