White or ivory?!

Clara, on November 15, 2021 at 9:04 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8
So I got my dress this year and it’s white, but I’m looking at other peoples dresses and some have ivory, and now I think maybe I should of got ivory instead? Does this really matter unless your trying to go by the books here lol?!

This is very much personal preference and depends so much on the dress itself, your skin tone, and so many other elements.

Then, even between dresses which are called white or ivory on the label, there is shade variation.

For example, my dress is ivory mikado silk. I bought little satin flats to wear later in the night, and naturally bought ivory ones, thinking they'd match. Well... when I got home, they looked SO yellow and horrible next to my dress and I ended up having to take them back and exchange them for white ones, which matched perfectly.

If you can afford to, I guess you could always try the other dress on and buy it if you like it, but I feel like you fell in love with your white dress for a reason!

It’s personal preference. Most ivory dresses are not that different from white and even side by side they are difficult to tell apart. The same goes for an ivory dress against a white dress shirt on the groom. Most guests will never notice or care if they are different in any way. Plus, certain colors are more flattering than others on every individual.

This is your moment and you can do whatever you like. Sometimes I have to put on blinders when looking at what others have decided for their special day. If you are happy with what you got, then keep it. If you truly want to change then change but the decision is all yours. My bouquet is non-traditional, I’m wearing converse sneakers that I decorated with rhinestone’s and pearls, and I’m tricking my husband with a different outfit for our first look photos. Do what makes you happy.

When I initially was shopping for a dress, I didn’t want white. And ended up choosing an “ivory” dress. I kept thinking it was still too white until the boutique ladies showed me the difference. They held a piece of white printing paper to the dress and immediately you can tell the difference. Ivory is bridal white is what I was told.

It’s definitely a preference. Hope that helps.

It's all based on preferences! Smiley smile My dress was ivory. One of my friend's wedding dress was white. Hers was gorgeous! And it totally suited her for her style and color. Don't second guess yourself! A white wedding dress is just as beautiful!

Actually all dresses in my boutique were ivory... "Very" white dresses are maybe less common these days... But still, it's personal.

It depends on skin tone I’m pale skinned and so I chose a champagne dress ivory overpay so I’m not washed out in my photos

Nope doesn’t matter. I wore ivory because I prefer it on my skin over that amount of stark white on me. But, which color do YOU actually like and which color looks best on YOU. Definitely don’t base your dress decision (or ANY decision) by following what others do.
