Hello all,
I'm headed to a destination wedding next week and thinking on my wardrobe; I bought a few new outfits as we will be staying a week and making a vacation of it, as will everyone we know who's going, including the B&G. However, one dress I purchased is white with flowers. I will NOT be wearing this to the ceremony or reception, but is it tacky to wear white at all? We still be seeing/hanging out with all our friends who are going (once again, including B&G) all the days we're there so they'll be seeing me wear it.

I'm now worried I made a mistake buying and shouldn't wear white at all this entire trip. Looking for honest opinions. A good part of me thinks that this is fine but the anxiety in me is going crazy..Am I overthinking it and worrying too much?

I definitely won't be wearing it to any wedding events, maybe out shopping or on a tour, on a day after the wedding is over. It's Hawaii so I was buying floral outfits not really thinking! 😱😅

It's definitely white with red/pink florals, but it's a maxi dress with a "tube top style" top holding it up. It looked casual and island-y and since it's Hawaii I just bought it without thinking 😱😓
I was planning to wear it only after the wedding at a non event where it'll likely be just the 2 of us. However, we are sharing a house with B&G so they will likely see us leaving and returning for the day and I don't want to upset the bride..

You're fine. Anyone who has an issue with it is way out of line.

It is actually not against common etiquette to wear anything white, even at the wedding itself. It is not considered good manners to wear anything white, and bridal in nature. Which means at a formal wedding, since formal gowns in white would compete with the bride, no white gown. But on less formal occasions, a white pantsuit or skirt suit with a colored blouse, or a print dress, is not at all bridal, and may be worn. Not a new thing. Has been true since Victorian times when rich people started wearing white , and since WW2 when most people of all income levels began to wear a white dress not their very best dress. White is not forbidden. Wearing bridal looking white, or any gown in any color dripping with lace or crystals, or anything at all more formal than the bride, is out. A print dress, colored shoes, can have a white background. 1/3 of the guest list may do this at a less than formal summer wedding, and old Emily Post or new Miss Manners, never prohibited it as bad manners, or violating standard etiquette. There is a recent trend of many brides picking white dresses for other bridal events. They can, but so can anyone else at the event. That is a recent trend, not a widespread or standing tradition. Not something you as a guest need to work around.
