Just Said Yes April 2020

Which month is better?

Brittany, on September 20, 2019 at 9:56 PM Posted in Planning 0 6

I'm planning on having the wedding next spring in Northern Virginia, but the initial date I wanted is booked. The only dates left that work for both my caterer and the venue is either April 4th or May 30th. Please help me decide!

April:

Pros- Cooler weather, spring flowers blooming, parents go married same weekend 37 years ago, fiance prefers this date

Cons- Could be COLD, need to spend more on outdoor heaters for cocktail hour, only have 6 months to plan, need to buy additional jackets/shawls for bridal party

May:

Pros- Weather will be warm, 2 extra months to plan, can show more skin, sister's baby will be old enough to fly

Cons- Fiance will be hot and complaining in a 3 piece suit, could be humid and sweaty, more likely to rain, mother will be be able to help less due to school calendar

Thoughts?

It sounds like you have looked at all the pros and cons and you and your FH need to decide. If you are wedding is outside I would prefer chilly over hot myself but that’s just me. I planned my wedding in 10 weeks so from a timing standpoint you can do it. Good luck.

I would personally choose April! It's easier to bundle up a bit (plus it's cute in photos!)

I would personally choose April. You said fiancé prefers April. If you don’t have your heart set on May, sounds like April would work.

I have awful spring allergies and prefer May over April, but if April works better for y’all, go for it! Based on your pros & cons, it looks like that’s better for y’all.

The only things I thought of that haven't been listed already is that April 4 is the weekend before Easter weekend and May 30 is the weekend after Memorial Day weekend (assuming you're talking about 2020). That may change things for your guests - if, for example, they have standing family vacations for Easter and can't afford to come to a wedding the weekend before. Just one more thing to consider!
