Which Hawaii Island for Honeymoon?

My first guess was the Big Island but Oahu has a lot too, it's just not as big.

Anyone have any suggestions from previous experiences? Like what's there to do specific to that island and pricing. Thanks so much!

Pretty sure Jurassic Park was filmed on Kauai. Make sure to see Oahu's North Shore and Kailua Beach too. (Waikiki Beach really isn't that nice.) Get a car and explore! Every island offers far more than just "laying in the sun," so don't let that be your reason to choose Oahu.

Haha @Zoe, yeah I didn't see it until just now (I ended up spending all my time catching up on the taco thread and WTF Wednesday). It's great to have someone talk about Maui since I know the least about it, I'm definitely coming to you next time we go there, we haven't been in 4 years, I want to go back!

I looked into it last night because I couldn't sleep, and found that it's actually cheaper than our original plan to stay 2 nights in Oahu and 3 in Maui, even with the extra flight! Super excited!

@HiH. Maybe we can do kind of WW meet up next time one of us is on the other island. Smallest WW Social ever! @Childress. Yea for two islands! You'll be so glad you did.

@Zoe, yes!! That would be so awesome! Now....how to get my work to pay for me to take a trip over there....too bad you're not on the Big Island, my research advisor lives there so I have an excuse to go there (and for the telescopes). I actually got a free trip to Kauai last year, we (My DH and I) did an outreach thing at a library for a couple hours (set up some solar telescopes and people came by to look at the sun) and work paid for our flights and a one day rental car, then we made a vacation out of it. If another outreach event happens on Maui I'll be there!!

We stayed in the Ko'olina area for our friend's DW, and we went to the Aulani for a massage. It was the bestttttt! Unfortunately we booked it the day before, so the only spot they had was the last slot. By the time our massage was done, they had already removed the cupcakes and treats in the relaxation rooms. But definitely worth getting something at the spa at Aulani, and book it midday so there is plenty of time to go early (bring a swimsuit for nice outdoor, co-ed baths/interesting showers) AND stay after for relaxation and treats.

If you go to Oahu, definitely rent a car and get out of that main area. I was pretty disappointed with Waikiki, it is SO commercial! Gucci/prada/apple those sorts of stores lining some of the main walks. If you go there knowing that it might not be as bad; I wasn't expecting it to be so commercial so I found it disappointing. It sounds like Waikiki is the worst offender for this though, so if you can get to other parts on the Island or explore other islands that will likely be a bit better.

I've been to Hawaii and I would say if possible jump islands. The shuttle flights are only $50 and are like 15min to 30 min rides. That way you can see many islands.

We are going to Oahu. Plan it yourself, much cheaper that way. And use Airbnb to find super affordable cute lodgings!

For Hawaii, VRBO is a better option than Air B&B.

So glad to see all this info! We are going to Oahu (Turtle Bay) for part of our honeymoon and Maui for another part. We're also doing a 7 night island cruise because we have a credit with the cruise line. With all the great things mentioned to see and do, we may have to extend our honeymoon!
