Which Date to Choose? Holiday Weekend Wedding Pros/Cons?

Again, I'm just like @glam2013 Getting married Memorial Day weekend, except most of my family is OOT. But my family usually spends Memorial day together so why not have a super fun party?! Everyone has an extra day to travel. And since that Monday is a holiday, I'm having my wedding on a Sunday. It's cheaper and no one has to work the next day. I sent out STD's about 8 months before.

@glam2013 Did I know you were getting married in Atlanta, did we discuss the fact that I'm from there and my wedding's in Marietta? SUPER TWINS!!

It may be expensive to get away in the future for an anniversary celebration.

My wedding is on a holiday weekend! 11/10.

The way that I look at it is this; the people that mean the most to us and that we mean a lot to, will be there. Others may skip it due to having other plans. I just know that people will do whatever they can to be there, but if they can't then that's okay too.

Its wonderful that none of our guests/family have given us any "grief" so far for choosing a holiday wknd. See Katie B it can work out As for the inflated prices, didnt go through that either. Most professionals have packages and rates that are known/posted up front. I know matter of factly that I have not overpaid for anything with the exception of maybe florals as there is no way for me to check that as it is so individualized and I am having a wide variety. I actually SAVED compared to most brides by choosing a sunday in terms of venue& photography. By any rate, good luck making your decision!

My professional opinion for doing hair and makeup for about 5 yrs now is go with what you will be comfortable planning. Things will fall into place when you're happy with your own choice. Keep in mind your main priority and stick to a plan and you'll have better control of how you feel not anyones.

I got married Labor Day Weekend 14 years ago-- another thing to consider is we had a lot of no-shows-- I think cause people decided a BBQ was more fun than a wedding. On the plus side our anniversary always falls on or near a long weekend. I say, 'give yourself the breathing room cause there are pros and cons both ways.'!

My theory is, most people like celebrating with their families/friends on holidays so why not give them a time and place to be together?! Agreed with @Mrs. S... Chirstmas or Christmas Eve would be a little much but I am only the next biggest one: New Year's Eve... and I haven't gotten ONE complaint!!!

Some people will have other plans but that is why they have an A-list, B-list etc. If you're like me, you're trying to cut down the guest a little anyway

I am having my wedding on August 31. I am a teacher, my mom is a teacher, 3 bridesmaids are teachers or in grad school, and 2 of my groomsmen are teachers or in grad school. I also have 5 out of my 18 wedding party coming in from out of state. The 3 day weekend is PERFECT for travel and recovery. I love my wedding date and many people have told us they think it is a perfect wedding date!
