Whether or not to provide transportation for guests

Wedding will not be destination. It will be in a major city. Reception and ceremony at same location and 9 minute drive from hotels. Even if it was something like $2000 I still had no idea it would get this insane price wise. Even though there is a huge time gap in between drop off/ceremony/reception/pick up we have to pay for the WHOLE TIME?! How many people are supplying transportation for OOT guests? Thoughts on providing this when the hotel is 9 minutes away? I would have liked to provide it but wowza it's expensive.

The only weddings I've ever been to that offered transportation were the free hotel shuttles (which I'm having) I don't really think it's necessary to provide transportation.

We have a lot of guests travelling in and staying at the hotel. Our hotel actually offers a shuttle for free for having our room block there, so that might be something to look into!

Adults can figure out their own transport.

If you're going to use a free shuttle from a hotel, please lie to them. They are always late.

I think it is totally fine to let them fend for themselves! I did just see advertised something called UberEVENT and you send vouchers to your guests for a ride between the venue and the hotel. They schedule their own rides and use the vouchers you send, then you pay only for the rides that are used. I only know the bare outlines from the ad but it may be worth looking into if you want to provide transportion.

I like this, order one to match your theme, frame it and put it near the bar or exit, have uber listed and local taxi companies

Don't feel guilty for skipping it!! People have so many options available (Uber, taxi, renting a car) and transportation is always an expected cost when planning a trip.

To be extra nice to your guests, have some of those Uber "first ride free" postcards in the restroom or at the bar.

You don't need to provide transportation! Our venue and hotel is only 10 minutes away but we decided to have a shuttle. We are using a regular school bus and it's only $550 for about 10 hours! My cousin is doing the same but only providing transportation back from the reception and we can leave our cars there and pick them up the next day. That could be an option as well so you don't have to pay for the time you're not using it?

Our hotel has a shuttle but it's small and you can never trust those to be on time

I'm still battling with this one. Due to a major event near our venue, we had to get a hotel 25 minutes away. Because of the distance, the hotel won't provide a shuttle (they have a 5 mile maximum). The cost to rent a shuttle bus was astronomical, and while UberEvents is an option, I find it to be somewhat confusing. You can cover the cost of X amount of dollars in rides, but you have to give them a set number. I don't even begin to know how to estimate something like that... I'm in an area where Ubers are plentiful, so if worse comes to worse we will let our guests make their own plans for transportation. I've still got to look into the school bus option.

There's about a mile between our ceremony site and dinner, so we're paying for uber for anyone who can't/doesn't want to walk since the parking situation will make it massively inconvenient for people to simply drive form one to the other.

We're using school buses but you shouldn't feel obligated to provide transportation. I wanted to in hopes of making it easier for OOT guests to come. The hotels all have airport shuttles and we're providing wedding event transportation so in theory they won't have to rent a car if they don't want to.

I would say no. Adults can be adults.

I think you should be ok without since you are in a big city, so taxis and Uber's should be available. We were thinking of hiring a transportation company too, but someone suggested hiring them for the last 2 hours of the night for the people that can't drive home. They can leave their car at the venue and get it the next morning. Might cut down on the hourly rate a bit..

There isnt any hotels for 30 min or ubers.. I guess they could taxi but it's 50 miles away from where we all live which is why my parents feel it's necessary for busses but I don't know I mean everyone there knows probably 10+ other people going so I feel like they could carpool but I don't want people to leave or not drink bc they have to drive

That's a good idea! I wonder if it's worth the 50 mile fare or if it will be more expensive than a bus?

Ugh i don't think u bers exist there which is whats getting me...the other side is everyone lives in that area so to me I'm thinking they can hop in with someone that is sober to drive and leave their car (it's a family venue so no towing) but a 50 mile uber if they do exist would be so expensive
