"Where's my invitation?" Oh, really??

Chris, on February 9, 2015 at 9:50 AM Posted in Planning 0 10

Our venue has a 150 person max. I gave DH 5 spots from my half of the list to help him since his family is larger than mine. In turn, he decided to exclude some cousins he didn't speak to. He knew that would cause drama, but he didn't want to invite people out of obligation, and I agreed with him. Some of these cousins did some horrible things to his elderly GM and we had to get the state involved.

Now that the wedding is drawing near, the cousins are feeling the burn. Saturday, I went to a baby shower and a few of the cousins in question were in attendance. Of course, they acted brand new.

"Oh, Chris...I didn't know you guys were getting married?!? Where's my invitation?"

Bitch, bye. Yes, you did know. And you knew you weren't welcome. You just thought you could catch me off guard and pressure me into inviting you. However, I just put on my sympathetic face and said, "I'm sorry, but space at the venue is limited, we just couldn't invite everyone."

Goodness, help me...

Ugh it drives me NUTS when people feel like they should be invited to a wedding.

Yes, its wonderful that people what to share your special day with you & FH. But Sorry not sorry, I only want people who are present in our lives & will continue to be! its like people don't realize that weddings cost money!

Yes, people think there is an unlimited pool of money to just invite folks. Granted, I can understand family thinking they are coming....but if you haven't talked to your cousin in years and you know the reason why you have spoken, don't act like you are owed an invitation!

HAHA...they acted brand new! That's hilarious! It's ridiculous how people act when you tell them you're getting married. All they see is free food and booze. Sorry, not on my dime!

Sorry, you aren't getting a free party out of me! Some people do what we like to call "counting your money". They know both me and FH have good jobs and in their minds, we should be able to afford to invite the whole clan down to 3rd and 4th cousins. Some family members may choose to do that, but we didn't. We are only inviting people we truly want there. Sorry if it burns that you didn't make the list.

Weird that they acted like they didn't know... If i was trying to be manipulative I would act like we were besties in public and act like I've been all involved the whole time. Sooo 4 months out, has your dress come in yet?! I can't wait to see FH's look on his face when you walk down the aisle!!

(now, I would never do this, but if they didn't know you were engaged, obviously you wouldn't invite them to the wedding)

Sorry you're dealing with that. That's awkward, but your response was perfect.

Thanks, ladies. They thought they could softly bully me since I was on FH's family's turf. It wasn't going down like that.

I hate that! Everyone at work does the same thing. I finally said I was to busy to get everyone's addresses that I didn't already have and told them to send it to me. Apparently, no one wants to do that. Works for me!! I love your response!
