Where to tell guests to sit??

RachInCali, on April 15, 2011 at 12:47 AM Posted in Planning 0 17

Okay, so my mom and I were talking tonight and she started sounding angry asking me "How are you going to tell your guests where to sit during reception?, What are you planning on doing??" she brought up a good point..

I don't know what to do..if I should just write it on a piece of paper? Do any of you have ideas?? I am sooo lost and don't know what to do! My mom also said "You better start doing these things now!" ughhhh frustrated! If anyone can help i'd appreciate it! =) Thank you!

You can always just write all of their names alphabetically in word, you can decorate it with some images to match your colors/theme. And then take the document to kinko's to have them print it on a giant piece of paper and spray glue it onto foam board. Total price $5.

Most party rental places have conference/meeting equipment such as a poster tripod.

I've seen it done with lists like Hayley mentioned, or a big chalkboard, or individual escort cards. My son's wife is a chemistry teacher, so they used these, based on test tubes, at their wedding.

I think I really like this and have told you before. So If my uncle is jesse barrios and his gf is claudia s. do I put them under B and put Barrios, Jesse and Claudia even if they aren't married, they are established as dating but aren't married. And if it is a guest would I put say george smith under Smith, George and guest? I love this idea and think I am going to try it out.

I had each person on their own line, so no, not paired up. You can group the letters if you want to have groups instead of only 2 or 4 names per last name initial... or group the small ones so they match the size of your giant last name lists.

    A ~ C

    Abbots, John..................... Table 3

    Abbots, Mary .................... Table 3

    Brown, Lisa ...................... Table 9

    D ~ G

    Door, Karen .....................Table 6

    Door, Karen's Guest ...........Table 6

    H ~ K

    Jones, Becky ................... Head Table

    Jones, Tom ..................... Table 7

    L ~ M

    etc..

    N ~ Q

    etc..

    R ~ T

    Smith, George ................ Table 9

You could have it divided by tables...A decorative 8.5x11 sheet titled "Table 1" with all guests, "Table 2"...works better for smaller wedding. Escort cards alphabetized with their table numbers, etc

You can do all sorts of things. You can also have someone at the door to greet your guests and ask for their names and they would know which table they will be seating at. It also cut down on the ones who did not RSVP. I did not do no assigned seating, because I do not like to tell people were to sit at. That was one thing I hated about a wedding. Their is always family drama and you do not know whom have problems with whom that day. And I did not want any problems. So you could do assigned seating or you do not have too. It's up to you. Also think about the headache if one person decides no to come or you have to add this person etc. So it takes a lot of time and stress. Go for it if you like.

We're doing this really crazy idea. . . Just letting people sit where they want to. That goes for the ceremony AND the reception. We're doing a heavy hors d'ouveries buffet at the reception, so it's not a formal sit-down dinner. So people can carry their plate or sit if they prefer. We're actually not even planning to have as many tables with chairs as there will be guests. Our venue pointed out that people tend to mingle and unless it's a formal meal, there's no need to have a seat/table for everyone as they won't be sitting there anyway. We'll have several tables inside and a couple outside and then just a bunch of chairs around the edge of the room. We'll see if it works or if it becomes an epic fail. lol

I think I am doing these little favors. That takes care of a favor and a place card at the same time! They will be on a table by the door for the guest to pick up. They will have the table number/name and then they can pick which seat at that table they want(might do a theme name instead of numbering).
