Where to put the wedding cake?

Cynthia, on September 19, 2016 at 2:16 PM Posted in Planning 0 10

Due to a friendly FH we have a lot of people coming to our wedding. We are working on the layout and the venue coordinator suggested putting the cake in the middle of the dance floor while we ate, then after the cake is cut we would move it. At first I thought it was a great idea, but then I realized the cutting of the cake usually means the party is almost over. So am I am wrong? The more planning I do; the more I realize I don't know.

    We did cake cutting first - so that people could take cake when they went up for dinner. We had a smaller cut cake- they moved it to our table for cutting, then moved it back to the dessert table after!

    The past 4 weddings I have been to cut the cake right after dinner and then immediately had their first dance. No one left right after and most stayed until the very end

    I would be more concerned about moving the cake and it not falling over.

    We're doing dinner then cake cutting right after to get all the food stuff out of the way. I don't want to interrupt dancing for cake cutting. I don't think it means the party is almost over.

    Wow, learn something new every day.

    @kbb - I totally like the idea of " get all the food stuff out of the way"

    @FutureMrsB - Cake movement is not an issue yet. lol

    @Brooke - Thanks

    When you said where to put the cake the first thing that came to mind was AWAY FROM THE DJ! lol I have seen a cake tumble from being too close to the speakers so keep that in mind. Also agree that the cake usually signals that the "party" is beginning so some people leave around that time.

    I never knew that cake cutting meant the party was ending...If that's really the case then I have over stayed my welcome at almost every wedding I've been to in recent years lol Just do it at the beginning before dinner so people obviously know it's not time to go home if that tradition is common among your guests

    We cut the cake immediately after we entered the reception and then they dismantled the table and took it off the dance floor.

    @FallBride - totally different perspective.

    @AlmostMrsWright - away from the DJ - NOTED!

    @Nastassia - the reception is in one large room.

    So If we do the cut after dinner then we would move the cake to the desert table for those to consume at leisure.

    Additionally, after the cutting of the wedding cake, your guests (namely the older crowd) will know it's okay to leave your reception. Make sure your caterer gets 15 minutes lead time before you head over to cut the cake.
