Where to find a modern, affordable bridesmaid dress?

Celeste, on June 22, 2008 at 4:41 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 16

Choosing colors for my wedding was difficult enough. I know where I want to have the ceremony, who to marry (he's fantastic, I love him SO MUCH! Smiley smile and what dress I'm wearing.. other than that I could care less Smiley winking I'm really not a details person. I approached the subject with my MOH and she was not happy with my selection of color and of course wanted "a dress I can wear again' which I'm pretty sure doesn't exist. So my question is, can there be a fashionable, fresh, modern approach to the bridesmaids dress? Can anyone point me to some modern options that won't break the budget? Both of my maids are low on cash so I'd like to give them affordable options. And if I can find a dress that isn't the typical shiny BM dress, I will love you guys forever. It's a beach wedding so have that in mind when you think of suggestions. Thanks!!

I understand you MOH concern, that was my concern for them in my wedding as well. I didn't want them to spend beyond $100, and that was pushing it. Obviously, if you go to like david's bridal or wedding dress stores they'll have nice modern stuff, but you have to pay the price. We found their dresses at one of those stores at the mall that carry BM dresses, prom dresses, evening gowns. We had two different styles and they all are able to wear them to any other formal even if they wanted to. They were about $85. Im not sure where you are located or if your local mall would have stores like that, but if you haven't checked, i'd do so. I would also suggest looking up online stores, but its much harder to shop that way, when you need to see the dresses on.

What I did is let my girls pick the dresses they like so I gave them a color which is apple red/or scarlet red. So one of my bridesmaids went to this website astore.amazon.com/debs03-20/002-3390282-4709668?%5Fencoding=UTF8&node=66

and they each paid 50.00 for there dresses and they r able to wear them again.

I’m thinking of getting my wedding dress and my bridesmaid’s dresses at David’s Bridal. I live in Toronto and they do not have them In Canada only in the States but they have such beautiful colors and such modern styles that I am willing to travel the short distance across the boarder to get them. Why don’t you take a look at www.daividsbridal.com you can search by color or by style. Good luck

I let the ladies who have agreed to participate in my wedding to choose their own dresses. One chose from www.nordstrom.com and (shhhhh) it is nicer than the David's dress & boutique dress the other ladies chose... not that they aren't nice too. The Nordstrom dress was less than $100

One of my girlfriends is also getting married on the beach and she allowed us to pick from a few options. Her wedding is very casual (her dress is made of jersey with some embellishments) and we picked our dresses from the Victoria's Secret catalogue. It will really depend on what the overall theme of your wedding is, and sense the season is ending (retail wise) many dresses will be on sale. Have you tried Speigal.com, or www.newport-news.com?

I've always had luck telling brides to check out Lord and Taylor, Macy's and Nordstrom. Nordstrom has a great half yearly sale that could bring down the price. Also, check out J. Crew and Ann Taylor for dresses as well.

Some bridesmaids dresses that I just adore (and can actually be worn again!) are from twobirds. Here's the link: http://www.twobirdsbridesmaid.com/ They're absolutely adorable, can be worn in a number of different ways, and because of that, a number of times! Hope this helps!

Please don't hesitate to call or email me with any further questions.

    Best,

I'm a destination wedding planner on Vieques Island in Puerto Rico, so all of my clients have to find cute bridesmaids dresses for beach weddings. So many of them have been finding adorable dresses -- one that could actually be worn again and usually I think that's just a joke -- at J Crew!!! They have a whole wedding dress website now and their dresses are great. Watch out for the ones that don't accommodate busty girls -- I've seen a few of those. But across the board, the fabrics, styles and colors have been gorgeous and my brides have been thrilled. Check out J Crew and have a fabulous wedding!

I bought my girl's Isaac Mizrahi dresses from Target on clearance for $12 check it out online there's really great stuff by him there for weddings & mine is formal! Gojane.com & cutesygirl.com also have formal sections as well as regular day-to day dresses for supercheap. Everything is modern & young and good quality, they will definitely get 2nd uses. For not soo formal but still nice, modern, & cheap also try the websites for forever 21, rampage, wetseal, & lulu's. You'll be really suprised by what you find & all these sites let you return/exchange in store as well as shipping back so its pretty convenient for every1 especially if you're not near eachother..good luck!

I would look on house of brides.com & bestbridalprices.com, the prices are reasonable and their selection is big. That way you can narrow down your choice and then go to a bridal salon that carries the designer-have them try it on so they know what they will look like in them then order online to save money. Good luck!

I got my BM dresses from http://www.exquisitebridesmaids.com/

I called them and explained my budget so they can research possibilities for me. It worked out so great. i gave measurments over the email. They even showed me a few dresses via skype. I found something that threw me over my requested budged by 50 bucks. i can live with that. Only complaint: they everytime i call them they don't pick up the phone fast enough!
