Where to Buy this Dress

Kenya, on August 1, 2024 at 3:37 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 7

I want a colored wedding dress. The ones that I like are like Quinceañera style dresses but I am not a part of that culture so I do not want to be inappropriate, but I do love the style. I absolutely love this dress and it flows so well with our beauty and the beast theme, but here on the Eastern Shore of Maryland or Delaware I have no idea where to start looking for something like this.

One place that came up in ai chat is Mary’s Designer Bridal Boutique in Annapolis.

You could go so place and check out the gowns and see if they match your expectation. I don't suspect anyone would have an issues with you wearing such a gown for your wedding.

Please don't feel like you are "appropriating" anything. It is your day, your dress, your $$$, and any retailer or tailor would be THRILLED to create a wedding dress for you. Mori Lee and Ariana Vara have Quinceñera style dresses. You can also go to a tailor, especially if you have seen them work with mothers and daughters for their Quinceñeras.

Now, the big, Quinceñera events are usually part of Mexican culture, and are not done on as grand of scale in South America. For this reason, places like California, Arizona, Colorado, Texas, and New Mexico will have more shops and vendors with these dresses on hand. You can also look at Poshmark where Quinceñera dresses are sold all the time. Florida may have some, but it may not be as many since most of the Hispanic community comes from the Caribbean and South America.

    Buena Suerte! (Good Luck)

Oh, btw, "Beauty and the Beast" is "Bella y La Bestia" (Beh-yah ee lah Beh-stee-ah) if you want to tell someone about the vibe you are going for.

Other handy terms if you ever get lost in translation:

    Blue: Azul (Ah-zool)
    Gold: Oro (Oh-roh)
Lace: Encaje (En-cah-jeh; Pronounce the "j" almost like you would in Arabic)
    Crinoline: Crinolina (Creen-oh-leen-ah)
    Tulle: Tul
    Waist: Cintura (Seen-tur-ah)
    Hips: Caderas (Cah-der-ahs)
Bust: Busto (Boo-stoh) or Pecho (Peh-cho)
    High Heels: Tacones (Tah-coh-nehs)
Date (As in, Wedding Date): Fetcha (Feh-tch-ah)

I would also suggest to maybe contact Sondra Celli. She has custom made several dresses and outfits, including for the TV show, "My Big, Fat, Gypsy Wedding". She is based out of Massachusetts, and I am sure she can also make your blue custom dress.
