Where to buy dress if living out of town

Rebecca, on July 24, 2019 at 3:00 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12
I plan to get married in my home state, and probably will only be going back there once in winter and once in spring/early summer (wedding is fall 2020). Should I dress shop in my hometown or just in the current city I live in? How many fittings does one usually have?

Will you have to fly to your hometown? If so, that could be tricky if you buy it there and keep it there and have to travel for fittings. A girl I worked with lives in Kansas City and was flying to Pennsylvania for all of her fittings since she bought it in the same town she was getting married in, which added up cost. I would say buy it where you are now that way alterations and fittings are easier for you. Then you can ship it/fly it with you when you go for the wedding.

I bought the dress where I live. It was much easier for alterations and accessories.

Buy the dress where you live. You don't want to have to transport it for alterations.

Buy your dress where you live. When doing alterations, you’ll probably have to go in at least 3 times, at least a week apart each , for them to pin , then do work, then make adjustments.

Thanks all! Yeah, I live in the mid-west and would need to fly back to NY. Too expensive to fly multiple times a year, especially on the weekends for fittings. I’ll buy here in CO.

I bought my dress in a different state but had it shipped to me so I could do alterations where I live.

When we went to do a planning week at our destination wedding location I ended up getting my dress there, they’re shipping to me free of charge. And I’m going to get it altered where I live and then take it on the plane with me.

I live in CO and I’m getting married in NC. I bought the dress with my stepmom and moh in NC and my mom picked it up and shipped it to me. I had alterations done in CO and will have one more fitting. I’m shipping it back to NC before the wedding because I don’t want to travel with it.

That’s a good idea to ship it back! Didn’t really think of that!

Buy the dress where you live. We're getting married in my hometown and need to fly. Let the airline know you're traveling with a wedding dress and they'll hang it in the cabin for you. Besides, it's easier to shop for accessories and go to fittings/alterations if you buy the dress where you live.
