Where should photographer sit?

Edward, on May 1, 2018 at 1:44 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 4

We are having a very small wedding for my daughter (16 people; immediate family). We are having dinner at a local private club after the ceremony, but don’t know how to address the photographer during the dinner. Should she sit with the immediate family ( she is a friend of the groom’s family) or should we provide dinner in another room of the club (I.e., the bar)? We just thought of this (less than 2 weeks before the wedding!) and want to do the right thing. Any advice would be appreciated!

Ahhh this is tricky since she is a family friend, otherwise I would say give your photographer some space and let them eat on their own/with other vendors. If this a pro and you’re paying her, and since it’s a small gig and it doesn’t sound like she would be invited to the wedding anyway, I think she would understand if she sat elsewhere and had some personal time.

If the photog is someone you would have invited to the wedding anyway, then I think seating her with guests is fine, but I’d be worried if she is an amateur that she would linger instead of getting back to the camera for speeches, etc.

Check with your family to see what they suggest (and to get a feel for whether or not this family friend would be offended to sit elsewhere). And check with your photographer to see what she would prefer and what she has done at similar events she’s shot in the past.

Our photographer specifically asked to be seated during the reception. This way they don’t miss any important photographs.

My venue is having a table in the back of the room for all the vendors to sit, and they will be fed when they have time to sit down/ when they want. That way they don’t miss eating while trying to capture the important moments during dinner
