Where do i start?

Alana, on April 14, 2020 at 3:01 PM Posted in Planning 0 6

Hello everyone,

I am newly engaged (Feb. 14, 2020). I am starting the planning process and I am a little overwhelmed. Any advice? Where do I start. I am currently on here requesting information for venues. Is there anything else I should be working on? Dates are flexible but we are aiming for May 2021 OR September of 2021.

The first thing you should do is talk with your FS and establish a budget and a rough draft of your guest list. Once those are set, you can find a venue that fits both of those things and has availability in the months that you’re interested in.

Yes! We've made it that far and I am actively hunting for a venue right now.

Setting a budget is the first, and most important, thing you should do. Also, having at least a rough estimate of your guest count. As PP mentioned, this will be necessary when reaching out to venues. Until you have a date selected, you can't do too much. But you can start researching photographers, caterers, florist, and DJ's. These are all vendors that will book up quickly. So I would have a list of vendors you are interested in ready to reach out to once you have selected your date and venue.

Like others said, set a budget first. Then I would start contacting vendors as soon as possible and get an idea of which ones you want to visit when we are able to. Start booking vendors when you can because they book up fast! We booked our vendors last Saturday summer/fall date and we booked a year and a half in advanced!

Start with a budget. We did it backwards where I figured out how much everything would cost and started saving which you dont wanna do. See how much you have or to borrow and start to budget. We did some stuff DIY but not all.
