Hello everyone,

I recently got engaged on New Years 💍. I am totally stoked about finally marrying my best friend. But I am super confused and don’t know where to start with the wedding plans. Any advice? Thanks a bunch

Start with the budget. It’s often the hardest thing to figure out, but once you know what your price point is, it’s much easier to narrow things down. Then I would decide if you want something big or small, which again will help direct you on what you can choose. But always stick to the budget. Even the smallest budget can give you a wonderful and perfect wedding, but going over can put you in a financial hole for a long time if you’re not careful.

We figured out our guest list first of who we would want there as well as our budget. Those two go hand in hand when trying to find a venue. Then we looked at venues so we could nail down a date before booking other vendors!

I would say if you want ideas for your wedding a Pinterest board is the best place to start. You can look at anything from wedding dresses wedding receptions wedding cakes Etc. It can kind of lead you may be on to the type of theme that you want. Also as a previous poster said I would definitely figure out your budget and how much you both want to spend because you'd be surprised how things you wouldn't think would cost a lot of money can be so expensive just because you said the word wedding. Including the venues. I would say the things you want to start booking soon would be the venue and the photographer because it's only January but for some photographers that I showed interest in they're already starting to get books for this year and pending on the area that you live in the month you want to get married in could be a very popular month so certain been use my book up as well as photographers you want May already be booked.

Definitely start by setting a budget! Next, think about your guest list and start looking for venues. You will want to book your venue first, as those tend to book up quick and that will also solidify your actual wedding date!
From there, vendors like photographer, videographer, caterer, and DJ will need to be next on your list. They also tend to book up quick. Use the checklist here on WW. It is very helpful!!!
Your dress should be purchased around 10 months before to allow time for it to arrive and for you to have it altered, save the dates go out about 6-8 months before your wedding, and invitation go out 6-8 weeks before your wedding. Wow! Info overload lol. Sorry!

Budget, guest list and venue. I highly recommend buying the wedding planner by The Knot. My mom gave it to me the day we got engaged and it was so useful. It has checklists, questionnaires for when you are talking to vendors and forms to put contact info for all of your vendors. It is definitely worth the money.

First, congratulations!! If you're into podcasts at all, I recommend listening to Bridechilla. I listen to it as I drive to and from work, which is great because it makes me feel like I'm being productive while I'm driving. Bridechilla also has guides you can buy to help you with planning.
I also recommend using the Wedding Wire checklist and The Knot checklist (both are free and come with your account when you set it up). They're a little different from each other, so it helps to use both of them to gauge when you should try to have things done by.
And like everyone else said, try to set a budget sooner rather than later. Wedding Wire has averages of how much brides spend for each category (ie. Venue, catering, flowers, etc), so that's a great starting point. We actually looked for the right venue we wanted first (and our venue includes food and alcohol), and then we used that as the baseline for our budget since it's typical that the venue and catering is about 50% of your budget. That also helped us figure out how many guests we wanted to invite since your guest count determines how much your catering will cost (it's priced per person).Hope this helps, and good luck with everything!
