Whens a good time to look at gowns?

Hi ya'll,

I'm wondering when's a good time to start wedding dress shopping and when you should have your dress ordered by? I'm a plus size bride and I'm sure like most brides, I'd like to loose some weight before I go dress shopping. My wedding is exactly on year from today.... 10/01/2020.

I'm a plus size bride also, who gave up on losing weight because I'm running out of time before alterations need to start. I had to order my dress (like most women do) because I couldn't find anything off the rack I loved. The order takes 3 months for mine, then alterations take a few months. So if you are ordering I'd give yourself at least 6 months.

    Hi Megan!!

Some actually start looking at least a year out. So many options! Even if you don't buy right away, at least you know when you're ready to purchase you would already know what you're looking for.

So if you’re going to a traditional bridal boutique I would give yourself at least 10 months. My dress took 7 months to come in and I’ve seen some take longer and then there is alterations. Places like David’s Bridal or BHLDN come in a lot sooner though so you would have more time if you ordered from there.

I'm getting married July 2020 and ordered mine early September. I am a fellow plus sized bride. I had an amazing experience at a plus size boutique - I totally need to lose weight (not sure if I will) but after trying on dresses I didn't feel like I needed to - I felt beautiful in everything and I could try on everything in the store. Just something to consider. If I lose weight - that is great, but I also love the way I looked in my dress so I am covered if it doesn't happen.
