When to start bugging the stragglers?

Jordan, on August 26, 2019 at 8:27 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 25

Hey everyone! My RSVP deadline is quickly approaching (09/03) and I still have 45 outstanding RSVP cards. I am wondering if it's too early to start to reach out to those who have not responded? I would really like to get started on my seating chart next week so that I'm not waiting until the last minute. Also, the day before the deadline is Labor day so I am sure there will be mail delays due to the holiday.

You shouldn’t reach out until the deadline has passed.

Yeah, I get wanting to know your headcount and starting on the seating chart, but if you gave people a deadline of the 3rd, you should at least wait until after then to follow up

Definitely don't reach out to them until the deadline has passed!

I don't see a problem with reaching out. Ours aren't due until 9/7 & I just made a facebook post on Saturday saying "Hey 2 weeks". I wouldn't do all your hardcore reaching out until after the due date though.

Yes, too early. PLEASE don’t do this before the date that you gave your guests. It is off putting. Wait until the date you selected for them to be due has passed. Waiting even a few days after it passes will save you effort, as many stragglers will reply on the due date/if they’re mailed, put them in the mail that day. On my due date I was waiting for about 25. By the time I went to reach out to follow up the next week, I only had ONE missing rsvp left to reach out to. I got 8 in the mail the Monday after our rsvp due date!

I agree wait until the date has passed. You could start with a rough draft of the seating arrangement and adjust as needed.

I'd wait until 9/4. It's rude to reach out prior since guests still have time to send them in.

Also, when the time times to follow up on missing RSVPs, don't feel like you're bugging them Smiley smile

Thanks everyone. I think I'm just getting anxious/frustrated because almost 1/3 of our guests haven't responded with only 1 week to go. I thought maybe we'd get a chunk today but there aren't any coming in today at all. Why the heck to people wait until the last minute?!

I would give them at least a week before following up. Procrastinating guests + a holiday weekend = the possibility of late RSVPs.

A week after the deadline? I don't have that type of time as I need to get the numbers to the venue.

I guess it could also depends on your guests and where they are. We had CA guests and some of their responses took at least 5 days to reach us in MD.

I agree, what's the point of a deadline if you don't need it by then? A week tells me they forgot or weren't going to send it in, I'll message them within a day of the deadline!

I disagree with most. At this point you have probably gotten guests who have forgotten about the RSVP hanging on the fridge. I am going to reach out either fb post or fb private message to all those outstanding sometime a week before as a heads up that the RSVP date is due ___! It's just a reminder and not wrong by any means. Our friends did this for their wedding, which actually reminded us to send ours in. You will probably have many guests have a light bulb go off and will probably get many more in than having to follow up with 40+ individually. Think smarter, not harder. After you date has past then wait a week to follow up individually with the stragglers!

Exactly this. Like who decided it's "offputting" to reach out as a reminder ahead of time. I literally took no offense to it when our friends did it on FB, and it actually reminded me as it was sitting on my fridge and I hadn't thought about it at all.

    My RSVP date was 8/23/19.

I sent reminders 8/8, 8/15, and the week of. Week of said, “If you plan to come, but fail to let me know, then be prepared to be hungry and sit on the floor.

If I don’t receive anymore by 9/22, then I will remove their names from the Seating chart and then print it. We’re only having seating for those that sent a response.

I text the Hostesses today to advise yhzg if the name is not there, then there is no seat for them.

Being invited doesn’t mean that you’re seat is guaranteed.

You must declare your intent to attend.

I would wait until the deadline. I’m in the same situation. I just started the seating chart with those I know are coming. Then I’ll plug in people as their rsvp comes in.
