When to Serve Late Night Snack?

Rosie9615, on August 4, 2015 at 11:34 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 19

We are doing a late night snack (most likely pizza). Our venue gives us the option to have it served at 10pm or at 11pm when the reception is over.

10pm cons - could interrupt dance flow

11pm cons - some guests will likely be gone already

What are your thoughts?

We are serving our late night snack around 10:00ish. We are going to ask the DJ to announce it and make sure to keep playing great busy so it doesn't interrupt dancing. We are going to serve subs though so it will be a bit different

Not to be totally difficult, but could you do 10:30?

I don't think 1030 would work because they have it in a different room when served at 11.

Do 11:00 pm. With your dinner being so late, I think 10:00 pm would be too early for a late-night snack

Then I'd say 10. If it's at 11, would people basically just be grabbing a bite on their way out the door?

@JP+AP Yes potentially - There are quite a few people staying at the hotel and planning to go out after the wedding, but I don't know how many out of the total would stick around. I'm trying to get dinner moved earlier (they are not wanting to budge...), and will definitely ask if 1030 is a possibility.

If dinner is at 7:45, then people will be eating at 8, followed by cake. I wouldn't want pizza at 10, unless the dinner sucked.

    11. That said, I still wouldn't eat it because it's so close to after dinner.

We did ours at 10:30 reception was over at 11. It didn't disrupt dancing but we had it passed not set in a different room. Could you do like 10:45 have your dj make an announcement by that point everyone is winding down . Whomever wants to dance the last song can just come back in the room. I'm thinking if your reception is over at 11 and you serve at 11 people will be hanging around which might cause you to have to pay for extra time.

Thanks Nikki for the advice - we just get booted out of the main area at 11 and won't have to pay for extra time in the separate room.

I never THINK I'll want a late night snack, but to be honest, plated meals at weddings are usually pretty small. That plus an open bar and dancing, and I'm starving pretty quickly. It doesn't really matter if people are already gone at 11, then you save money! If you're planning to go out afterward, maybe 11 is the better plan?

Sorry. But in most cases, your guests have eaten through a lavish cocktail hour, a four to five hour dinner of multiple courses and dessert. Of course they could eat more, but why?

The whole "stuff to eat later" trend is another way for your banquet venue to sell you more stuff. It's not necessary, but for them it's another way to pack profit into an time frame that you didn't need to spend more money on.

And you did solicit for "cons" and thoughts. Just because you don't agree with me doesn't make it a negative comment. It makes it a realistic one. Sorry if you didn't like it.

@Celia Last I checked, you're not paying. You are entitled to your opinions, just not sure why you feel the need to constantly overshare them. I asked about cons and thoughts in reference to the times - not if I should have it. So again, thanks for your unsolicited opinion about the value of late night snacks.

I vote 11pm too! It'll be nice for your guests to have something as they walk out ~ and I agree, you don't want to interrupt the flow of the dance party.
