When to send save the dates?

Allyson, on June 16, 2018 at 6:26 PM Posted in Planning 0 10
Specifically, my wedding date isn't until December of 2020, would sending out save the dates this December be too far out? I've been thinking of sending out some kind of save the date to people saying when it will be but then sending out a more detailed one in the beginning of the year of 2020 (that one would have the date plus the venue and time plus RSVP cards as well), but would that be too much?

I think that may be a little early, I am getting married April 2020 and I want to send out things a little "earlier than usual" but I think I may do save the dates no more than a year in advance and then send invites about 14-18 weeks before as compared to the usual 10-12 weeks. I just don't know how early is too early!

If u dont have a date or a venue i kinda think it would be a waste to send 2 save the dates. My wedding is May 26 2019 and we r putting ours in the mail next week. 2 years is way to early to tell people to save a date in my opinion.

I agree. I'm getting married 9/2020. I'm sending mine out 9/2019. One year out the Save the Date, then 3/2020 sending out invitation

Oh and rsvp cards r for invitations. Why would u have ur guest rsvp before they get the actual invite?

When in December? I'm getting married this December right before Christmas so we sent ours in March to give people some extra heads up. Usually they are sent about 6-9 months out so I'd definitely wait until 2020 at least.

2 years is far too early. A lot can change in two years. If you send them a save the date you have to send an invite. Friendships can change, you might have a falling out with a friend or family member, others can get married or divorced, etc. I’d hold off until early 2020.

I would wait until Early 2020. We're having a late December wedding this year, and we sent out STDs in February. Which was a smidge early, but because it was during a holiday time we wanted to get them out.

    Two years is VERY early.

Also I wouldn't send out RSVP cards a year early, thats a recipe for lost, and forgotten and having a lot of no shows. If I got an RSVP that early I would probably either mail it back and then forget about it and miss the wedding. Or set it some where to deal with later, and then forget about it and miss the wedding.

As a compromise to sending two save the dates, maybe send a engagement announcement. You could use the announcement as a way to tell everyone the wedding is in 2020. Then send the Save the Dates at the appropriate time in 2020
