When to send save the dates

Molly, on May 25, 2016 at 9:57 AM Posted in Planning 0 9

Hi all,

My wedding is going to be on Saturday of Memorial Day weekend 2017. I was thinking of sending save the dates 11 months ahead of time since so many people make plans for the holiday weekend. Is 11 months too early? Thoughts, opinions, recommendations?

Thanks!

I would say yes that is too early. STD's are usually sent out 4-6 months early. I would wait until at least 6 months out.

I sent mine a year in advance because it is a destination. I think it was too early. 6-8 months would have been fine

My wedding day is the same day! We actually sent ours out. Our wedding coordinator explained to us that since it is an extremely popular weekend for parties and travel it is best for those to know now so they do not make other arrangements.

IMO I think that's too early. I'm two days before you and I'm not sending them out until November. Even for a DW they say send them out 8 months prior. What I did though was email/text/call VIPs (Mom, Dad, closest friends and fam and a couple of relatives out of state) the date so they could save it on their calendars.

We're the week after you and we just ordered ours. We'll send them out in June since we know most people will have to travel.

Please be extremely sure of your guest list before you send STD's. To be safe, I think you should send them only to VIP's and out of town guests. A Save The Date IS an invitation, if something happens later on in your planning and you have to downsize for whatever reason you can not uninvite the guests you've sent STD's to.

You are definitely going to get mixed opinions on this topic. Many will tell you not to send them at all because they lock you into a guest list too early. If you are ABSOLUTELY sure nothing will change about your guest list and date (no surprise budget or venue issues that force you to cut your guest list), then I personally agree because it's a holiday weekend, it is okay to send them out earlier than normal. But I admit I am basis. ;o)

If you are certain of your guest list early is fine since it is a big travel weekend, but be certain. If you send a STD to someone who is ultimately not invited it would be in poor taste. Good Luck!

We are ordering ours hopefully today to take advantage of the 50% off at vista print but won't send them until late August or September
