When to send invites

Kayla, on October 1, 2019 at 12:40 PM Posted in Planning 0 7

I will be getting married in my hometown, which is about 2 hours from where FH and I currently live. While its not technically a destination wedding we will have quite a few people from my family traveling from all around the country (Georgia to Arizona). However, FH family is all within about 2-3 hours from where the wedding is. Obviously most of my family will stay in our hotel block, but FH family we think is 50/50 if they will or not. My question is, when should I send our save the dates and invites? Should I follow the hometown wedding timeline or the destination wedding timeline?

We had over 50% of our guests coming in from out of state. Basically all our guests stayed in our blocked hotel. We sent save the dates out 10 months in advance, with a small insert card with our hotel block & our wedding website, then invites 3 months out with a details card with 2 hotel blocks.

We have guests coming from all over out of state and out of the country and we’re getting married May 2020 and we sent ours mid September if that helps!

I'd send save the dates 10 months out, and send your invitations about 10-12 weeks out.

Edit: Also, be sure to include your wedding website URL on your save the dates so that your out-of-town guests have access to additional details (hotel room blocks, schedule, etc.) before the invitations go out.

I wouldn’t invite any of them until you know them better.

You won’t know if you or which of them will still be working there by August 2020.

Wait to see if you develop relationships with any of them first.

I didn’t send Save the Dates. I’m glad, because all of the people that would’ve received them ended up not being invited.

I had people on my seating chart (I started by making that first and using that for my invite list), but had to make some decisions. I decided to invite those that

I think you should follow the hometown wedding timeline. If the majority are within a few hours driving distance, I don't think it's "destination" even if they need a hotel. Whatever you pick will work out just fine!
