When to send invites?

Future Mrs. Cwik, on January 2, 2020 at 12:30 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 9
My FH’s family lives in California and NY. My family lives in SC. We are getting married in NC. When would you send out invites?

Invitations go our 6-8 weeks ahead of your wedding date with an RSVP date about a week ahead of the day you need your final count for vendors. The end of this month/first week of February would be a great time to send our your invitations for your March 27 wedding.

We had over 100 out of state guests we were inviting, so we sent save the dates out 10 months in advance and invites out 3 months in advance. We had our hotel block set up & website done when our save the dates went out. Our RSVP date was 40 days out.

We only have about 25 out of state people to invite outside of my family (we are on a group family email so they know the details), but since our RSVP is March 1 and our hotel blocks expire 30 days before the wedding, we thought we’d send ours out 10-12 weeks in advance. Etiquette says 6-8 but we wanted to give people time to plan properly

We got married in NC and had people all over the country. We sent invites out at 14 weeks and had them due at 4 weeks. We still had people who never rsvpd, and I still had a vendor hounding me for numbers at 6 weeks 🤷‍♀️

We also messed up and didn’t send our website out when we sent our save the dates 🙄

Makes sense! And yeah our venue needs a final headcount 2 weeks in advance, so we gave ourselves a couple of weeks for people not RSVPing, cancelling, etc.

Since you didn’t put your website in your STD, I’d send your invite 8-10 weeks before your wedding. Probably closer to the 8 week mark though. Many people will lose the invite or forget to RSVP if you send them too early.

I personally hate getting wedding invites 1-2 months out with no heads up prior. We are generally busy on the weekends so either a save the date or earlier wedding invite (as a guest) is preferred.
