When to send invites?

Whitney , on March 20, 2017 at 2:33 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 15

Hey all!! Ok so I am getting married on June 10th of this year. We did not do save the dates, we are just doing formal invitations. I want to time it just right so that there is plenty of time for guest to plan however I don't want to send them too early and have them tossed or forgotten. When do you all think I should start mailing them out? Thanks in advance!

When do you have to have final numbers to your vendors?

Ours is June 3 and we sent them last month. We wanted to give a little extra room because it will be summertime and people plan their vacations.

I would give your guests 3-6 weeks to RSVP yes or no and included a padded week or two in there for you to follow up on those who haven't responded. So send them 4-8 weeks before your final count is due. If you have a lot of out of town guests, err on the side of longer.; if it's something for in-town guests only, you can err on the side of shorter.

Date Twin! I am sending mine out April 15th. Since you didn't send STDs you could do April 1st but I wouldn't do any earlier than that.

ETA: My rsvp date is May 20th

Omg!!! Thank you all so much for the quick replies yall are awesome! April 1st sounds really good and the max our venue can hold is around 220 I believe so we don't necessarily need a final count for them but for food, yes. Hopefully everyone goes ahead and RSVPs pretty quickly.

Don't count on getting all of the rsvp's back really quickly, you might be highly disappointed. We got a good amount of them the first week, a big lul with only getting a couple back or none back each day, then got inundated the week before the rsvp deadline and the days following! People are good procrastinators.

I just got an invitation for a wedding on June 10th, I think it was a bit early. April 1st is a good date to go with!

Yes, please wait until April to send out. My parents are going to a July 15 wedding that they just got an invite to with an April 15 rsvp date. So much wrong with that!

I'm June 10th too! I jumped the gun. Oh well nothing I can do about it now. I mailed them today. I figured with it being summer and with all of the graduations that month I wanted everyone to have the time to figure it out. Plus, I am just too impatient. They were just sitting here all done and stamped waiting... and waiting... and staring at me. I couldn't take it anymore. I don't have a real deadline, we have to let the food know but they are friends so they said we can do so anytime.

We're sending ours 10 weeks in advance, but it can be a "know your crowd" thing.
